A decision upon my mind for many years has been finding a suitable person to take-over my role as primary administrator for MyPTSD community. I believe I have found that person, member @joeylittle. I asked and she has graciously and willingly accepted.
No, I'm not going anywhere. Still here, will still be around. What I am though, is burnt out from administrating / moderating a mental health community. I've taken breaks over the years from my role, as many staff here have also, yet I always had to return as the site founder. To date I haven't been able to walk away, hand over the entire running of the forum and be confident it would function administratively without me for long/extended periods. Staff did an excellent job on my breaks but I was never free to choose not to have to check in from time to time, even if taking a break. I need to do what I preach to everyone else here, I need to put myself first and look after my own well being.
@joeylittle has, IMHO, the qualities I've been searching for, enabling her to continue managing this community in its entirety, taking it forward into the future, while keeping the community transparent to ensure members maintain the same trust in her, as they have in me.
What does this mean?
It means that I will not be contactable by any member or staff for decisions about MyPTSD. The exact role I perform here, will be performed by @joeylittle. She will have the same access to ALL content that I have. If I did not trust her with that, she would not be the one taking over from me.
There are some things she will not have access to, yet will still be managed through her. Monetary access, advertising management, some forum features that are not needed to manage the site (upgrading, theme components, so forth) will remain with me, otherwise she will have full access to everything required to perform her role.
If you have questions, please feel free to ask. I will try and answer with as much detail as I possibly can, as I'm sure @joeylittle will if addressed for her.
This may, or will, cause some members to be symptomatic, experience paranoia, have trust issues and similarly related type reactions and possibly the associated symptoms. Please feel safe in knowing that I do not make such decisions lightly, and if I did not, without any doubt, trust this decision or if I did not trust @joeylittle with this role, it would not be happening.
I believe in time, any member who is apprehensive about this change will see exactly what I see working with @joeylittle as a member of staff. She has a passion for PTSD, trauma, to help others, and I believe that will contribute to furthering a harmonious atmosphere to the MyPTSD community. Change is inevitable and often good; it's just the transition to a new normal that humans tend to fear and find unsettling. It is important to remember this, as it applies now, as it does with other aspects of day to day life.
Possible Questions Which May Be Asked:
Did I go looking for someone like me? My administrative style?
No. Far from it actually. @joeylittle has her own style, is her own person, and will develop her own administrative style here over the years as she chooses to maintain this role. What I looked for were qualities which focused upon trust, communication, interaction with staff and members, passion for the topic, willingness to help others and more.
Will the community be changing?
I don't believe anything will change, other than a change of administrators. @joeylittle is not here to change everything, and in fact quite the opposite. She understands many of the reasons why things are done as they are here, due to being a mental health community, yet she must be allowed to make her own mistakes and learn positively and negatively. She is fortunate to have my own decade of experience here to rely upon, in both searchable discussions and talking to myself, along with other long standing staff. If I remained as admin, I would still make mistakes, and do, even after all this time. She will absolutely try some things her way, her own or suggested ideas, and they may work, they may not, but that is her role, to objectively assess everything she does, ensuring it is within the best interest of the community, in order to allow the community to function as harmoniously as possible.
Isn't @Nicolette also an admin? What is her position in this change?
There is no change to Nicolette's role here. She is the supporter administrator and manages supporters for private supporter access and such supporter matters. I do not have private supporter access, nor will @joeylittle, to ensure supporters are unbiased by PTSD administration. Everything else has always been handled by myself. @joeylittle takes over my role here as the primary administrator (the highest role and position for decisions).
What about personal conversations - Will they be accessible?
Yes, @joeylittle will have the same access to all user data and content that I do, in order to perform her role. Zero difference than what occurs now, admins do not read PC's unless an administrative reason for doing so. We respect member privacy as much as possible.
What are you going to do now Anthony?
I am remaining as a member of staff, however; my interaction here will mainly be with @joeylittle in private. I will be behind the scenes, doing the technical stuff, implementing marketing strategies, work on building other strategies to effectively build this site and shift it as the Internet moves, technology shifts forward, and user interaction shifts. I would like to get back to researching and writing informative pieces on specific aspects of PTSD that I find of interest, as time permits. These are all strategies in building this site to become the most authoritative resource for PTSD.
