Lexapro Anyone?

@EOD96 , thanks for your response! Yes, I've started noticing that I feel sort of "numb" but my T suggested that could be because I also started on gabapentin (neurontin) in order to get me off Xanax.

My T strongly recommends my psychiatrist up my ssri & taper off gabapentin/Xanax.

It's really hard to stay in communication with my doc as I plan on moving out of state & won't have insurance there :(

Please read up about Neurontin, it can have serious adverse effects. I've had some good results taking natural stuff including: GABA, valerian root, and Passion flower. Once in a while I've used Calm Advantage. I hope you do well.

I had a close friend on lexapro
close enough to confide in me that he lost all interest in his wife.
He also messed up and went cold turkey on it, which went about as well as going cold turkey on any SSRI does.

In terms of therepeutic effects, lexapro is an SSRI and there isn't much to choose between any them for seretonin reuptake inhibition (seretonin deficeincy is an effect of depressed mood, not the cause of it), and drugs don't teach you skills or fix the stressors in your life, they just numb you to them.

so the factors pushing you towards depression remain un adressed aand have to be faced again when you come off the drugs

and in PTSD, SSRI's are not significantly more effective than a sugar pill placebo (the placebo doesnt have side effects or long withdrawal), and it doesn't teach any coping skills, so if you are relying on the meds alone and you stop the medication and the symptoms return

Suicide risk is the elephant in the room that drugs companies and prescribing doctors don't talk about. Clinical trials don't recruit anyone who is suicidal, but in some trials, the SSRIs have shown up to 10 times the rate of suicidality compared to the placebo, from their intake of non suicidal participants.

That happened to me first week on Lexapro. At first a "relief" my mind was quiet, then as dosage increased, and time on it. Well too numb. Became disabling literally.

I won't ever go near it again. But that's just my experience, and know from experience I need to stay off SSRIs.
