Help! My son at an age where he is rough and can't be reasoned with, I'm in a lot of pain with a slipped disc in my neck and he keeps hitting and jumping on me, its triggering me with a huge amount of anger and then guilt. I desperately want to lash out but I can't, he's little and doesn't understand. Been dealing with PTSD since 2011 from DV and it doesn't seem to get better but worse. I'm scared I will hurt him or at least leave him a damaged adult because his dad isn't around and I... am well... feeling pretty ruined.

Time out?

Kids are rambunctious, but hitting and jumping on mum or dad is not okay at any age.

If he can say no, he can hear no.

I agree it's not ok to vent your anger at a child, but it doesn't mean you have to literally let them walk all over you.

It is good that you are controlling your anger. Lashing out, screaming at him etc. won't help and he will probably end up feeling scared and confused.

You didn't mention his age but even children as young as 2 years old can grasp the concept of discipline. Have you tried telling him that his jumping on you and hitting you, hurts mommy.

Give him a warning and ask him to stop. If he doesn't listen, designate a time out spot and sit him there for one minute per his age, i.e. 2 yrs old, two minutes. If he gets up before time is over. Put him back, gently and start again. If he makes it the allotted time. Give him praise and if he's old enough ask for an apology for hitting you. Explain to him in this house we don't hit each other.

This is what I did with my daughter when she was little and it seemed to work. Consistency is the key.

I hope this helps. It just advice that helped me.

Hope things get better. Best wishes.

I can so relate!!

I have a 2.5 yr old and she is crazy busy! My best control is making sure she is hugged and loved in enough. Which is super hard for me since I'm so sensitive to touch. But if I do it often and in small doses, she is less likely to feel the need to climb and jump on me.

When she does climb and jump on me, I admit....it get frustrated. I walk away till I'm calm and tell her to sit nice with mommy or she has a time out.

Also, you may just have a multi sensory child who needs lots of sensory input. I seriously run my toddler almost daily! She needs to dig, climb, run, jump, and touch.

Thanks Panda Bear,

I'm strangely glad you can relate. He is a very busy boy! Always on the go. Should get a sled for him to pull haha (kidding)

No...don't it!

A wagon or some thing if you can. Really, some kids need a lot of sensory input! It's a life saver to your sanity if you figure out to feed it.
