What it means is that "you are a very strong anchor for me"? The person who told me this is going through a difficult period. it can be means, You keep me here, alive in this world?

It can mean a lot of things, depending on how the person.

- An anchor keeping them safe in a storm.
- or
- An anchor dragging them down and drowning them in a storm.

- An anchor keeping them here in this world.
- or
- An anchor trapping them from spreading their wings and flying.

English, especially American English, uses a LOT of metaphors. Oftentimes the only ways to tell what a person means by what they’re saying is their tone of voice and expression, or in context.

In the midst of effusive thanks? Anchor is probably a good thing.
In the midst of frustration and problems? Anchor is probably a bad thing.

i'll add my voice to @Friday 's choir. in my long-term relationships, it can mean different things on different days. the same anchor which keeps me safe in a storm can drag me down to a drowning death.

equally, the cultural hodgepodge of the americas (canada to argentina) makes it all too easy to get lost in metaphor in all of the languages spoken here. are we metaphoring in english, french, quechua or chinese? me duele la cabeza. . . metaphors are even harder to translate than words.

I know it is in a positive sense. that I mean a lot to that person
