Anyone Else See Shadows?

quote="Ejat, post: 465917"]I've noticed 'shadows' out of the corner of my eyes for as long as I can remember. I've always assumed it was part of my intense fear of the dark because of past trauma that occurred in those conditions. But I've recently noticed that the 'shadows' only come after I come out of a dissociative state. If I go into that distant place, then slowly come out of it, there's a period where I see shadows that seem to move just out of my line of sight. It lasts an hour or two, then it goes. Anyone else experience anything like this?[/quote]
I don't know about abilities, but I know long term hyper vigilance can cause skills to develop. It certainly did in my case, much like I imagine a career soldier would. When trying to stay alive, you create a skill set to accomplish that. You learn how to 'sense' danger by reading the facts in a situation, body language, past experience and weigh the possible outcomes in your mind for the one that is most likely. It can seem that you can see the future, when really you're just highly aware and thinking one step ahead.

Lately I've been seeing movement out of the corner of my eye. It is always the peripheral sight. I try not to look as I think I'm just seeing things. Turns out I must be because I don't see anything when I look.

Me too.

I have also been getting weird creepy crawling feelings throughout the day. I even look to see if anything is on my body (there most often isn't).

Me too, especially when my anxiety is high.

I'm not taking any meds, so it isn't that reason with me.

@Oled: That's absolutely me. I am not scared at all e.g. in the woods at night, because my senses are there and I know things "will" happen because of what you wrote. One time, as a child, I managed to use that to run to a gas station for help when a man came after me to take me. I had been walking down a street and suddenly had that feeling of being monitored closely. I turned around and saw the man. The way he was looking at me, the way his muscle tenseness changed, the way he became aware of me... made me run. I lost my shoes, too, but I made it to safety.

Vibrating squiggles in color.

I had that as a child. And I also saw lots and lots of geometrical figures zooming in and out, turning, growing and shrinking. I enjoyed that actually but kept losing it more and more.

Also, when I was in a car, I had trouble with the perception of distance and speed. E.g. trucks would drive down the lane in the opposite direction and I would scream because the angles didn't seem to fit the route they'd have to take to not hit us. It's difficult to explain.

I do. I see shadowy figures often. It comes and goes, and is more pronounced when my anxiety is high. I also will hear things, can never pinpoint the sound but just know that i hear something.

Gee and I thought it was just me. I remember doing the corner of the eye thing of and on during my life. I am also doing EMDR and they have been back. It has been years. So possibly extreme stress makes it happen. I also am experiencing clicking in my ear and eye twitching. Any one having all three going on at the same time?

I get them too. Some of the shadows are just illusions, sometimes my mind mis-interprets seeing a reflection in a window. I know they aren't really there, but I check every time. The shadows don't bother me. It's the telephone in another room that drives me up the wall- there's no phone. Sometimes there's not even a room in the direction I hear the ringing coming from. I don't know if I'll ever understand it, but when things are really bad I hear an imaginary telephone ringing.

I think I know what you are talking about. It happens to me when I get very hyper-vigilant. Shadows become scary and I think they are people- sort of.

Maybe that is not what you meant. I don't know.

I get this quite often, shadows out the corner of my eye. I thought I was going crazy. Sometimes they seem to be figures and I'm paranoid someone is watching me and other times its just a blur in the corner of my eye. I'm not sure what causes it and it seems to happen randomly. All i know is that it freaks me out every time and I thought I was alone with this. It's comforting to know others see the same things and it's not just me going crazy.

I've seen shadows for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, I used to see them lurking through the house in places that my father spent a lot of time. As a teen I only ever saw them at random, usually catching movement as they moved out of sight. They were always very real - I never doubted that they were there. They weren't a trick of the light or a weird effect from my eyes not adjusting to something right away, they were present. The ones that I'd see lurking around my father's favourite places or just skittering out of view in random places reminded me of small, nocturnal creatures hiding from the light. They never had any concrete form, but they seemed to behave that way. Sometimes I consider the fact that they might be demons or something similar, because I do believe in that sort of thing, and other times I think was just in my head.

As an adult, I still see shadows, but now they seem braver, so to speak. I don't see them retreating at the edges of my vision, I see them standing there, hovering. Like others have said, I feel their presence more than I see them, and I get the feeling that someone is in the room with me. It is definitely associated with anxiety, but I usually don't notice that I'm anxious before seeing them, only after.
