Competition Ideas

My PRIVATE DIARY - how long is it anthony? About 30 pages or something......

FOR REAL -

$10k to PTSD forum and it's yours!

(I am making one omission - the song lyrics featured in the first 10 pages - 'Can We..... etc'....... that aside - $10k and it's your's folks!)

Ok, what about a Q&A session? A thread specifically devoted to questions carers would like to ask sufferers and vice versa. When someone participates they are aware of the fact they're in a competition, etc. Perhaps a panel of 'judges' could be selected to rate the 'usefulness' of answers for the 'other side', etc.

?

If you are trying to engage more people and presumably, you have a lot of members who aren't ready to post just yet, why not run a prize draw.

Keep it simple, anyone who makes 1 (non bs) post between now and xxx will be entered into a prize draw. First 3 names from the hat win x, y and Z.

It's kind of the 80/20 rule. 20% of your members make up 80% of the posts, so flip it on it's head and engage with the 80% who don't post and of course the 20% who currently do (I'm not suggesting for one minute those are the stats on your site btw) but you get what I mean.

Whatever you decide I'm sure it will be great :-)

You know, this would be a great thing to do with the intention of later meshing these posts as examples in a FAQ section...a way to flesh out the answer, or a link to "read posts related to this subject" kinda thing... (?)

The help forum kind off achieves that already... being the ability to post a thread and garnish responses to a specific subject, links, references, etc.

Could you explain more Adam?

With the competition you could get the best and most refined responses because the posts wouldn't be off the cuff...they'd be thought out and precise. The fact that they would be authored by members here who are accessable to speak with would certainly in my eyes lend credibility to the site overall....it would kinda shout out what quality members we have here!

I must say that I'm rather disturbed by this thread. I realize more participation is desirable, but seriously? A posting competition?!? Adding a competition into what is supposed to be a supportive community for a serious disorder like PTSD goes against the very nature of "supportive". It'd be one thing if this forum was about swapping recipes or auto repair tips, but I feel a posting competition here is completely inappropriate. The whole point of being on this forum is not to post, but to HEAL. Members are here to say or learn what they need to - as much or as little as they need to...to give and receive support...and then hopefully step away from the forum to move forward with their lives. At least that's what the forum was about when I joined 2.5 years ago...

Its about working out ideas Mina as to what type of competitions can be created to create participation. Even on this type of forum, participation can be swayed through incentives without affecting quality. This forum is 80% read, 20% participated, from the sites statistical information. I would like to capture more who are readers only and have them posting, and if its incentive that's needed, then that more or less helps everyone concerned.

Everything isn't just about current members, but the broader readers, but neither should be excluded.

And I think from the initial post to here... ideas are coming through to cover all relevant aspects of having competitions.
