Yes, I know I am on an island on this one so first let me explain from where I find my viewpoint on this one. As a victim of child abuse, I have absolutely no social circle. I have 3 DNA family members that are living but I have nothing to do with them either for very good reasons. You will have to trust me on this one.Well, I guess you can cuss me out too. That works for me too. So being that I have absolutely no social life at all, you know where I am coming from. By the way, don't pity me in the least for my lack of socialness. It will get better. But peace and quiet and no drama is not bad either.
I am a driver, and as a driver I get to see what people are up to out there in the real world. It is unmistakable how goofy people are with their cell phones. They are absolutely possessed by their stupid phones. I got off of FB about 2 years ago. One of the so-called DNA family members put up one of those stupid posters that called me a Hater. The DNA member in question was attempting to impress a boyfriend of the opposite race, which I could care less about. The DNAer in question was whining about how the member of the opposite race was treating her. I was just telling her she did not have to put up with that, she was better than that. Oh yes, the DNAer drove halfway across the state to be with the BF in Question after whining about all of the BF's transgressions. After I was called a Hater, I dropped FB like a hot tamale. Never, and I mean never, to return.
So we have the wonderful cell phones, FB, Instagram, Twitter, and let's never forget those awesome dating sites. Oh yes, I too was on the dating sites like a dufus. In my experience, yes I did go out on a few dates. But I think most of the beautiful ladies on there just wanted their phone to vibrate in their lap. And yes, I dropped the dating sites never to return. I was voted "Most Unpopular Man in America," a title I hold to this day and will probably never give up.
So what is the purpose of this thread you may ask. As antisocial and unpopular as I am, I don't think I am missing out on anything at all. I seems that people think they can say anything at all to a computer or a phone, but they would never say these things to someone face to face. There is much good that comes from social media. People that live miles away from one another can keep in contact with one another. But I think if we are really honest, the vast majority of social media is self-centered, one way, and in many instances down right mean. The forum on MYPTSD is very structured and monitored. I have been here only for a little while, but I find it to be very nice so far. Just for me, I find the others that I mentioned to have no redeeming qualities. Just being the casual observer that I am, it seems that people are almost married to their phones. So for me and just me, when they come up with a lovely anatomically correct female model and I can choose the body style, I will consider marrying one.
