Flashbacks Of My Experience - Causing The Same Feelings

New Here
Hi,

Four and a half months ago I went through the most wonderful yet most traumatic time of my life. I gave birth to my little girl. All was well until I lost 2300ml of blood. The doctors struggled to put in canular's for fluids because my veins were closing, I was in an extraordinarily awful amount of pain and to top it off; I thought I would never see my newborn baby, partner or mum again. That is just the basics of it.

A few weeks later I was diagnosed with post natal depression and PTSD. Things were starting to get better but now I am having flashbacks; reliving the whole thing again and again. People keep telling me to grow up and don't understand. My doctor keeps saying he doesn't want to put me on medication and wants to see how things go but things aren't changing. I don't know what to do anymore.

Can anybody help me?
Thank you.

I want to say first I am so sorry you had to go through all that. Giving birth is supposed to be a wonderful joyfull experince. I couldnt imgain having to deal with all you did after giving birth.

Flashbacks are normal with ptsd. It sucks I know. Have you asked your doctor about something to help you sleep maybe it will put you in a deeper sleep so the nightmares dont come or dont come as ofton. If you cant get any help from your doctor try a new doctor. Tell them you cant keep living like this. As you shouldnt have to.

I am sorry that people keep telling you to get over it, they dont realize just how hard it is to get over trama's until they are put in that place and then some people preceive tramas different. Each persons minds work differently.

I wish I could help you more.

Thank you. Just knowing that somebody else understands helps a huge amount. Thank you. Asking for something to help me sleep seems a good idea and I am going to try it as had never thought of that one. Maybe some extra energy will help me cope.

It does help having people who understand, I am so glad I found this site as it has been one of the biggest help to me as I wont go to therpy.

Energy might help. Plus your overall health will be better if you get full night sleep instead of broken sleep.

If you need to talk feel free to message me at any time. Hope you get better, or atleast a state you can manage.

Hi Mary Lois,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. Sorry you had to experience that. Flashbacks can drive a person nuts. They are all a part of the PTSD diagnoses. I agree that you need some medication to help you sleep, but know that won't end the flashbacks. Sleep is vital to your mental and physical health. However, you need to find a trauma therapist who can help you learn some flashback protocol to stop them quick.

Here is something you can do (I hope your husband will work on this with you). [DLMURL]https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/threads/how-it-all-began.30110/page-10#post-499347[/DLMURL]

There are many things you can do to ground yourself, so those horrible memories are cut short. I am really glad you came here.

There are lots of wonderful, very supportive people here, as well as some good information. Nice to meet you.
