I'm finally apartment hunting in another State and not many apartments allow pitbulls on their property. I'm heartbroken because I raised king from a puppy. He has been with me and I'm the only person he knows. He's a blue nose and I just don't want to give him up. If someone is babysitting King for me; if I am gone for a couple of days, he doesn't eat until I at least show my face one time. He plays with kids, and he loves to jump around. I wish people didn't raise dogs to fight because everybody is not the same. Now I am stuck because I don't trust nobody else with him. when he was away from me, I called everyday checking on him. I even take him to the vet but now a days people cant be trusted with a dog. I take King places with me. I wanted to train him to be my PTSD dog because he makes me feel better. Laws are strict in the State I am leaving to and I just don't understand. My mom has two puppies and she treat them like garbage disposals. There was old ham in the fridge and she gave it to the puppies. I don't know how to solve this because I can't give King up because I don't trust nobody to take care of him.

Hey Lauren,
Im a dog lover and used to be a trainer. I have two rescues that are my absolute everything. About ten years ago we had our oldest dog and were looking for apartments. We went to five apartments and every one said that because hes part doberman he is not allowed. At no point did we stop looking. Hes a part of our family. We found a condo that allowed him eventually. All I can tell you is that from what you are saying, your dog is 100% dedicated to you, dependent on you and needs you. You have no options on hand to give him a chance of a happy home and even then he may die of depression/starvation. PLEASE keep looking for other options. Seperating from him will likely cost his life.

Thank you!! I forgot condos existed!! I would start looking now. I love my dog more than anything

Another thing to try is this-
We live in a state that is very strict as well-- one thing I found out is while pit bulls wont be allowed in certain counties, do some location research and even 15-20 minutes away you can find one that does allow them. I agree with you that its the owners that create aggressive dogs, not the breed themselves. I think pit bulls are such sweeties by nature.

Look at your State Statue for Service Dogs very closely. Florida (my State) says Service Dogs in training are to be treated as Service Dogs. That then puts it on the ADA which states Service Dogs are allowed in any housing including no pet housing as they are not pets but medical equipment.

I have a letter from my therapist stating I need a service dog with me at all times and why. And I am owner training. Legally now no one can state I cannot have my pitbull!

Now, dont do any of that if you arent going to train him to be your service dog. I am just saying, if you are planning on it, look ar your state law closely as it may cover "in training".

@Lauren Taylor - keep searching. Look into laws by county, as was suggested. Search not only for apartments, but sublets, home rentals, room shares...pets make things harder, often - as far as the logistics of life are concerned. But, they are worth it.

Has King been socialized to other dogs? Does he have 'nuisance' behaviors, like excessive barking, indoor elimination? Do you keep his nails trimmed so he doesn't damage floors? Is he fixed?

These are things that will help him greatly on an application (for housing), and you can make sure to work on them before you move, if you need to.

His nails hasn't been trimmed again yet. He hasn't associated with other dogs in quite sometimes when he goes to the veterinarian he gets really scares and pees. He will only trust people if I'm around. My father wouldn't allow him inside the house once he got big. I fed him since the beginning including snow days. I have to be beside him or he won't trust you.
