It Could Be Worse

pain is subjective to the individual to a large degree. I think there is no real good solution to pain that works for everyone. If you have success it does not mean someone else will. There are different reactions for every drug made.

ODG I used to take tylox from the marines... its not prescribed much anymore but it might be another option to try. Fentanyl might be another. Don't give up keep trying.

There is a pain gel I use a LOT that helps me when oxy cant. Its called volteran gel
http://www.drugs.com/voltaren-gel.html
it does not help with all my pain just my legs/knees and my foot.

I also use lidocaine patches
http://www.drugs.com/cdi/lidocaine-patch.html
they don't treat the deep pain rather they go after the nerve groups. So I tend to wear one to bed and over a nerve group like the upper or lower sciatic in the back. It does not really remove all the pain, it helps block the pain message for a while. It can help to provide better sleep for me.

I tried the fentanyl patches but I didn't like the side effects enough to keep them.

There are also Fentanyl popsicles its a loly for pain. They are real bad for you. I had some just after my combat injuries. I will say they do help but they can damage your body real fast. Be aware if you try them.

Another option is a pain pump installed inside you that gives out measured doses of morphine. Seriously?! My dad has one. It ruined his life imo. He was better off just dealing with pain.

Hahaha... If I had upload cred I'd post Monty Python's
"Bring out cher dead! I'm not dead, yet!"
Or maybe that scene from New Tricks where they've all laid their pill bottles on the table.
f*ck it. Who needs cartilage & liver function? (Me. Me. Over here. Me! Dammit.)
laissez les bons temps rouler!

Pain meds / Tx are as individual as we are, ya know?

Opium = Lost a whole summer once. It was May, then it was Halloween. Whoopsies. This was during my ofp-years right after I was discharged.
Dilaudid = Sick
Morphine = Post-op Only on push. Cause I burn though it. Ticks anesthesiologists off.
Ms-Contin = Nothing. Suspect above problem.
Codeine = I still hurt exactly as much as I did before. I just don't care. Huh.
Hydrocodone = Works. Period. But I'm wide awake. On day 4 of no sleep. No bueno. Except during midterms & finals. Shhh. I didn't just say that.
Oxycodone = Godsend. Only takes the edge off, though. <3 <3 <3

Listing off the rest just seems like overkill.
Although there is the ever present groundpounder candy
(1000mg Tylenol/paracetamol + 800mg ibuprofen every 6hrs around the clock).
As I've mentioned before... I'm buying my orthopedic surgeon some sweet watercraft.

But everyone else is going to have different reactions to the same stuff.

My Dad had PTSD (untreated) and went to the hospital injured from work. They gave him an opiate and it drove him wild. Vivid nightmares. His doctor at that time asked my Mom. "Is he a veteran?" She said yes and he said "Shit, should never give Veterans opiates, does them no good or makes em wild"

Another thing I wonder is if you guys notice that no amount of anything will really put you down and out. Somehow my brain identifies drowsiness as a feel good setting and wants to power through because things feel so nice. I really have to forcibly say "OK thats enough, to bed" But it feels so good.

I tend to have adverse reactions to almost everything. Alcohol is like cocaine. Up all night.

Most likely this is all due to the fact that our brain chemistry is f*cked and we will NEVER have normal reactions to drugs made for "normal people"

Brothers I dont envy any of you. Im not gonna bitch about my aches any more. I certainly pray you guys can find some type of relief.

Has anyone tried hydrotherapy? Seems to work for me when I get bad.

I had a Coleman jacuzzi for a couple of years and it helped with my neck but was pretty ineffective on my spine. And it had two strong jets blowing right at my spine. I'd feel pretty good when I first got out, but the pain came back fast. If you do hydro, got to a gym or PT, don't jump into a purchase of a jacuzzi, they're a pain to keep the chemical balance perfect. I kept jacking up the "chlorine" or whatever disinfectant it was to keep the water clear.

Now, I've got little crusty patches all over my back. Plus, they're very high maintenance. All kinds of little sensors and switches to go bad.

Thats exactly what i did Sarg. I used one at a health club. It helped but Id freak when people began climbing in. I felt better and it relaxed me. So I decide to buy one. The newer units are easy to keep up. I shove a cartridge in mine every 4 months and shock it once a week.

But I just have herniated disks. More sever cases may yield a different result.

I tried a Jacuzzi one time. I have some scar tissue and small burn spots that are deep. WOW. I thought I was on fire. That scar tissue lit up like I was bathing in napalm.

The current house I rent has a pool. I am getting in it 3-4 times a week. I am not swimming laps or anything but the water, movement in it does help. Now if only I could figure out a way to cure the fire ants that are also in the pool. The little bastards bite and I get a reaction from them.

Two nights ago a scorpion was in my bedroom. I find giant spiders eating ants all the time in the house or pool area. Its just like being in Columbia all over again. I f*cking HATE FLORIDA! I was only supposed to be here a few months. Now its looking like YEARS>!

I wish there was a way to shut off the pain. It can drive you to become suicidal. Every time my injuries creep up and get worse it does this to me.

And now sarg is a Canadian? lol maybe you could go for Nigeria or something weird and we can all guess the flag.

I've got Brazil, Singapore, Germany and the U.S. left. I'm just deluding myself in to believing that this thing works. If I go over to Firefox, they hammer me with about 300 open ports. I have no idea what they're downloading or uploading. They tear hell out of my OS and hide shit all over my computer.

But then with the latest revelations, they're doing it to everybody. So, I guess I'm getting used to having six people peering over my shoulder.

Thanks reddevil,
Your post was right on time, as I was to see my Doc at 10:15am today. So I asked him about the tylox and Fentanyl. So he says lets check the VA Formulary.....Well the VA does not have it!!!! f*ck the VA. On the lidocaine patches, I asked Doc about them last year. Not in the VA Formulary, but they did have a cream. l liked it at night and it worked for about a month. The next I know, I got a bad rash on my lower back, that itched like hell for a week. So no more lidocaine. I just can't seem to get a break......That's life.......

Yeah I know ... it is hard. you know the VA has a rule on medications that are not in the formulary. If you try 3 drugs of the same type with no decent results you doctor can obtain drugs off the list for you. That's a little known rule that the VA tries to keep quiet on so they can keep costs down.

I am sorry brother.... it seems like the VA is giving out shit sandwiches and you got an extra helping.
