He was an MP K-9 handler and was shot while on duty on post. The flash band was in the Gulf, he was unconscious for over 30 minutes, had bleeding from the ears for several days and still has problems with his balance. He just recently had an MRI and they found fragments of the bullet still in his head. This happened in 1991 shortly after he returned from the Gulf.

Yer, unfortunately not many militaries really cater for non-war type wounds. Most countries see it as nothing more than a workplace accident, yet I often still don't understand, and can understand your angst with this, is that if this happened in a non-Government workplace, he would likely have been compensated / been able to sue the workplace insurance for benefits to assist the rest of his life. Yes... signing on that dotted line and working for a military, unless you get injured in war, you pretty much get nothing and can't sue the Government due to national protections they have against just that.

I get it... go figure, and I've never been able to work that out myself. Why don't the military have workplace compensation insurance, just like any other business has to have incase a worker gets injured? It does baffle me.

It doesn't matter if you were injured during war or here in the states you are still supposed to be compensated for anything that happens to you during your service. The VA and government and people really don't care. I talk to hundreds at malls etc. Some people get upset and call me a "free-loader".

That's what I don't understand, if a person is injured at work they get compensated, if you get hit by a car same thing and no one says a thing. But let a soldier get injured it's they knew what they were getting in to when they enlisted so why should I pay for it. Yet these are the same people that won't hesitate to get all the government benefits they think they are entitled to. Maybe I don't like having the taxes I pay into pay for their foodstamps and free medical while they sit at home playing x box.

The problem with all of this, is that Insurance companies roles are to gamble on risk... some they win, some they lose. Governments are simply immune from risk by law, otherwise everyone and anyone would sue them for everything wrong in the world. And the worst part of that... is that Governments get their money from the people, and the people don't like them handing it out willy nilly.

I guess I'm turning into a bitter old woman. It's just that when I see my husband hurting or hear my son screaming in his sleep because his mind is still in Iraq or my other son not wanting to leave the house because it's not safe I want someone to be accountable for it all.

My parents feel the same way they are extremely upset with our government and how I have been brushed off like nothing after everything I have done. If I can continue to receive my disability by not living in this country anymore I might just move to somewhere else.
