Sufferer Lost Everything Due To Ptsd

Welcome to the Forum Chw52,

I was very efficient and capable of handling crisis and drama prior to my "meltdown" and Dx of PTSD. It was like getting hit by a 2x4 and suddenly my support evaporated and I found myself pretty much on my own, as nobody quite understood why I was unable to "pull it together". What I was dealing with nothing new but how it was effecting me was.

I didn't understand enough at the time to explain it to anyone.

This site is full of supportive people, information, and a place to ask your questions. I found a place I fit and can come when I need breathe, to vent, to support others, to laugh, to learn something, and get some direction. I have a great trauma therapist, different from the regular tdocs I've had in the past - that's not to say a few of them didn't help get me to this point and get me over some hurdle such as domestic violence issues, they did. I was never able to work it from this angle though. Either the training wasn't there or I was still holding back the information to give the total picture. It takes work and willingness. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Take good care,
peace,
Rain

Dear chw52,

We can't change the past, but even something as thoroughly 'lousy' as ptsd can open new perspectives and new doors.

I agree with Bear, and without positive feedback it is almost impossible to feel one has made any progress at all- but you are, and you will, and things will get better.
I hope that it will enable you to help others in new ways, to make new friends who are more understanding and tolerant, and perhaps in time your family will also begin to understand and be more supportive.

Welcome to you :) and P.S- You're already making 'progress' to post.

Peace to you

chw52, you are most definitely not alone. I have gone from a happily married man with young kids to a (soon to be) divorcee living in a rented flat. Please believe it will get better. I lost all my joint friends with my wife and felt things were hopeless, but I am now looking to go out and start new friendships. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, there are just a number of bends you must pass first :)

I think my Avatar would make sense here. Hope it`s ok to do this.

Chw, my husband just joined the forum, and he has been in a similar situation, although it was during a deployment that he experienced what he did. It involved children, and he is dealing with a lot now because of it. You are most definitely not alone.

It seems to help just knowing there are others going through what you are, doesn't it.

Not that you would wish PTSD on your worse enemy, but knowing you aren't the only one on planet earth feeling this, seems to help. It has for myself and the carers I've been in contact with anyway.

I am touched by this thread.. I thought I was the only one LOL as for losing friends etc I can well identify and the song "I get by with a little help from my friends" somehow rings true although I can understand how lots have turned their backs, some are solid as rocks and I dont think I need to tell anyone here about the rage, the madness the sorrow, the regret that so often follows my own episodes, and they have stood by me.. what would you do if i sang out of tune? if I can be of any help, I will try my best, I have a gift to raise spirits, to make people smile even roar with laughter as my personality is a tad zany.. its a useful tool but sometimes even the sharpest tools in the toolbox are not enough. Best of luck and therapy can work it all depends on who is doing the counselling.. I had one in 1999 who laughed (through nerves) at me.. only a quick uncomfortable laugh but it was enough for me not to return so please choose your therapist carefully, there are some excellent ones out there and some not so.

Good luck.

Ciaran.

I am so sorry that you had to witness a child die!!!:( That is such a sad, terrible, and traumatic thing for anyone to have to experience. I myself am terrified of car wrecks and I don't know how rescue workers can protect themselves from developing PTSD.

When I developed PTSD and became disabled, I lost my job, my fiancee', my cat and my dog, my health, and very nearly my sanity.....but with encouragement, support, therapy, and medication, I am healing day-by-day and live a much better life now....I hope the same for you!!!!:)

Peace,
LH
