Daisy, the trick to happiness (more like contentedness) is staying present on the moment. Leave the past in the past - why look over your shoulder and be upset over something that is no longer here? - and the future in the future.
Fill your days with as many hours as possible of positive activities and altruistic endeavors.
Yup, simplistic, I know, but that's what brings us out of depression and into contentment. Been there, done that. It works!
