Positive Experiences With Therapy

I am currently seeing the best therapist I have ever worked with. I've seen many therapists and a couple of pill-pushers before winding up with my current team, and I couldn't be happier! He's very understanding (we've been through similar stuff), VERY reassuring, and he knows when to push me and when to back off. He is actually my best friend's Aikido instructor. I started going to her class, and he had to help me with some severe chi-blockages that were damn-near killing me. Then, he found out about my trauma and wanted me to be a guinea pig for his intern. After the intern, I stayed with him because we had such a good connection and he had so many tools that I desperately needed. I've been seeing him about 8 months now, making good progress and currently hoping this will never end (but I know nothing lasts forever...). Hope you find a therapist as good as mine! Good luck.

Hi
I have a therapist who is very calm and matter of fact. She seems to know a lot about therapy a nd has had a lot of experience. She is also kind and just is trying to help me. She seems very intuitive about when I am dissociating and grounds me often. At the end of a session she can tell when I am a bit over whelmed. We have tried lots of different strategies and used humour to lighten things up a bit. I hope that you find some one that is helpful and that you can trust enough to open up to.

I've been seeing my current therapist for five years. She is really experienced and works together with my psychiatrist who is also great. It was difficult at first because I had huge trust issues, but she was very patient and now I don't know what I would do without her.

I've been seeing mine for a year and she's the only therapist I've ever worked with. I find the process of therapy itself really difficult but I feel incredibly lucky that I have her - she's so compassionate, really intelligent, deeply intuitive, totally open, very funny and she holds the space gently but firmly. As well as doing the difficult work, we also laugh a lot and have a lot of banter, which is really important for me. She also challenges me but in a way that isn't at all critical or judgemental. And she responds well to feedback I give her, making adjustments if need be to make things more how I need them to be.

I absolutely always feel that whatever she does/says is in service to me - it never feels like 'her stuff' or her ego gets mixed up in sessions and she doesn't take things personally.

I adore her and feel totally blessed to have her in my life and she's supported me through some really difficult times.

I promise there are good ones out there! :-)

It took me a few therapists to find the one I have now but I'm soooo glad I kept looking! He's helped me so much in the time we've been together and I wouldn't trade him or the experience I've had with him for anything. It's really hard finding a good therapist sometimes-there are a lot of wackos out there but keep going! I promise it will be worth it!!

I"ve had 4 over the past 10 years. Overall they were all what I needed at that time. Positive. Scheduling and insurance were the main reasons for not continuing with the first 3.

I have not read the replies to your post, but I would like to say in general that whereas I used to go to Therapy twice a week when I first was diagnosed over ten years ago, I am now only going once a month. A lot has happened in all that time, but basically all I do in therapy now is to work out anything that has come up since my last session with my therapist. Usually we can take care of that within the one hour. I also have my therapist's home phone, email and office phone number. I only use the home phone in case of emergency and I only had to do that once. It was nice to know that I am trusted with such a thing however!
