I'm thinking for trying to convince my mom to get me a service dog. I have a mental disability and obviously traumatic issues. So I have some questions for people who already have them. How would I go about getting one? Would he be allowed in stores? What kinda things will a service dog for mental health be able to do? Is there any way I could get help paying for training? I live in the US by the way. I appreciate any answers.

Research, research, research, research....and resarch. I did hours a day, every day learning about training in every single area. I spent money on training tools, books, videos. I spend every single waking hour engulfed in this.

I am owner training and have spent about $500 so far. I have watched at least 1000 videos. I have 6 books. And bought a VOD.

You must be dedicated, owner training or not, to training for the remainder of the dog's life. You must maintain a level of training well above any normal pet.

The best thing I can advise is to research insanely hard.

My service dog in training is an amazing help to me but I am also very dedicated to him.

5 Questions to Ask Before Partnering With a Service Dog

Awesome! I 2nd that site!

difference between service dog and emotional support dog to see which best fits your needs.

VERY good point. And ESA sits there for you to pet and love on. A service dog performs a service (tasks) that you cannot do on your own.

Big difference and each has its own pros and cons. It is important to know what you need. Not what you want but what you need.
