I searched around for this, but couldn't find a similar thread.

I figured maybe it would be nice to create a thread in which people who are up for Skyping, can comment :) You don't have to give away your Skype name publicly (please don't). But it might be easier to find Skypers this way, the info exchange can be done through pm or any way you want.

That way, people who feel like talking can come to the thread, post a message, and contact each other for the details. They can also make their own ground rules if necessary, you can establish those in your post. For example maybe you don't want to discuss specific subjects.

I would suggest that the Skyping sessions are not an alternative to therapy. So while we can provide a listening ear to each other, nobody here is qualified to act as a therapist. We can talk about PTSD, but remember also that a change of subject, or simply discussing "silly" stuff or getting to know each other, can help.

I've been in chat plenty of times discussing absolute nonsense and I must say, it has been very refreshing . I will be getting my mic/headset this week, so from next week forward I'll be up for some banter.

If you have any tips, or anything to add, please go ahead

OH, I see, forgotten you are supposed to be preparing the Vegetables eh, hmmm taking a break are we from the chores LOL

I am handling the vegetables and the forum at the same time. I am super-radish. Don't forget...

I've got to say I am a bit nervous about it too, Anrish, since I tend to isolate, and then pretend I'm fine and don't need to talk to anyone :P
Would probably be a great way to get out of my comfort zone. I hope that headset gets in soon.

@Radise: It's a relief to hear that you're also a bit nervous. (That was my first post from my smartphone by the way...*proud* :smug: ) I was into chats and stuff when I was a teen but I turned my back to so many people who just used and bullied me so my skype contact list is rather short (best friend and sister). I'm sure it will be a great practise, also for language. :p

And: I really like your avatar. :D

Skype is a program you can install on your PC and lets you call people for free to their computer :) You make an account, and you can make calls, even to people in other countries. It's pretty cool actually. You can also just chat in it, it has a chatbox type of thing.

Some people use it with a webcam, but it isn't mandatory. You can also use it as if it were a normal "telephone" kind of thing.

Neat! I may have to check it out on my mac. I would feel :shy: if it was visual, but wouldn't with voice. It does sound like a nice way to get to know each other. :) Are they group calls or one on one?

I've never talked on the phone much at all well I did with my mother when she was alive, and my Gramma when she was as well, also every once in while my brother. My stepfather detested my voice, and made fun of me all the time, so I blush rather a lot on the phone, but it might be something to try. Just have to work up the courage.

I'm on the fence. Though to be honest I rarely log in to Skype. But if its voice only that doesn't sound so bad.

I'm very nervous, what if I don't understand someone or they don't understand me? That would be um difficult.
