Has anyone else ever had really bad stomach pain while trying to deal with everything else? I had stomach aches as a kid, but the pain seemed to peak just around the 25 years old mark for me. I got diagnosed with ulcerations in my esophagus and gastritis. The anesthesia (propofol) I had during the diagnostic procedure for my stomach stuff ended up triggering me and I went into a psychosis after that. :(

I have read that the digestive organs are associated with the mind and I wonder how common it is for others to have these symptoms. Thanks.

I deal with stomach issues, but it's an on and off sort of thing. It got bad a few years ago and I was prescribed an antispasmodic which seems to help. Sometimes the pain is constant for months and other times I'll be pain free for much longer. The pain kicked in again last night after a triggering event. I hope it doesn't last long but I have a feeling it will :(

I do too. I have reflux/burping whenever I get bad anxiety or am about to have a flashback. Diarrhea, vomiting, "fullness", or like right now and for the past few days...nausea that makes me feel like I'm on the edge of vomiting all the time.

It can't help that I also have an eating disorder and recently overdosed on aspirin.

But yeah, I always had stomach problems as a kid, too...diarrhea, cramping, easily feeling "full." And now it came back worse at age 26.

It's called "psychosomatization" of stress - physiological manifestations of your psychological stress, usually in the form of gastrointestinal issues, fatigue, migraines, and I think immune and other issues (someone else may know or experience more different types than I have on this list).

Sorry to hear you deal with it too. Pepto bismol doesn't do anything for me. The only thing that helps is a small does of THC (marijuana), though I'll let you discern whether or not that's something you should consider for yourself.

I've always had a horrible time with my stomach. I can remember being a small kid kept up all night with upper stomach pain so severe I couldn't sleep, couldn't stand still, could do nothing but pace and cry and throw up nothing. All the symptoms pointed towards ulcers or at least acid reflux since I was a young child, but an upper endoscopy found nothing more than "chronic inflammation". It was somewhat reassuring for me to find that there IS a reason for the pain, that reason being psychosomatic in nature, but it still sucks. The pain can be very debilitating at times. Sorry to hear you've gone through the same.

It is correct that your physical symptoms were probably associated with some kind of mental stress. There is an article called "the gut brain connection" on the web that is pretty good. Have a good day.

When you are in hypervigilance or fight, flight, or freeze, digestion is shut down by the brain. This causes all kind of problems short and long term. There is a literal disconnect.

I have has tremendous stomach related problems since I was a kid.

All the more reason to heal what ails us! (As if we don't have reason enough.)

I have stomach pain every time I have a panic attack or feel anxious, it makes me sick to my stomach ! not fun Pepto helps :)

I've developed ulcerative colitous and IBS.

I've seen the same doctor since I was in my teens (about 8 years now) and since being diagnosed with PTSD and explaining more to him, he finally understands why I've struggled so bad.

It definitely is all exacerbated by stress, so during my worst PTSD moments I know to expect problems and my favorite...a colonoscopy! :grumpy:

I have IBS and my psychologist told me that IBS is common to those who have suffered trauma particularly in childhood. I think he mentioned psychosomatization, something about central nervous system and digestive system linked; I think, can't remember. As a child I suffered terrible stomach cramps every time I got stressed and that continued into adulthood and then severe IBS. If I am stressed the IBS always comes on.
