Syria??????

What I think sucks is that everyone is in an uproar. All I see all over Facebook, all over the news, in all the papers and now in this forum is Syria, Syria, Syria. Don't send our troops. Keep the boys home. Over and over and you know what. Nobody has done anything yet.
Lets keep our boys home, lets not drop any bombs, lets move our troops out of every trouble spot in the world.

And then see what happens......There will be millions of innocent deaths, then the rebels and the extremists will take control of all the military hardware including nuclear powered stuff, then we won't have to worry about it again.

We cannot change what the people in power do. Don't get me wrong, I want our boys home too, but lets just not keep on about it.

Jimmy,

At the risk of overdoing, I gotta explain what I want. If we have to go after a bunch of maniacs because they're dangerous, then lets do it.

What we've done in the past is send military forces down the same roads, and into the same villages time after time, only to leave those villages and roads to be retaken again and agian. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO LEARN YA CAN'T MIX WAR AND POLITICS????

Once a road is clear knock everything down for 500 meters on either side, and make it a free fire zone. That means anything in that 500 meters is a target. If that sounds extreme, so is being shot at through the same window every time you pass bye it.

Soldiers, Sailors and Marines are not policemen or diplomats. They're trained killeds because they're in harms way. They have the right to a chance to get the job done and go home.

OK, at the risk of overdoing as well. Only my opinions here. War and politics, inseparable. Always seems to be the way of it throughout history.

My example is this. N. Korea. They have wmd's, they developed them, tested them and will continue to do that. They have developed a delivery system, tested them and will continue to do that. They practice brinksmanship constantly, a very bad combo. So, what have we done? Nothing. Using the template that we've used for the past 20 years at least we should go in there and do all that we should. But we won't. why? why, is one country Ok to invade and not another?

Personally we shouldn't have gone into any of the country we have in the past 20 years in my opinion. Still think we should just nuke the entire area, no problems for the next 10,000 years. Done, off my soap box.

The news is bullshit, turn the channel.

That's because it would take precise military action to knock out everything; however, they would still have enough time to kill a few hundred thousand South Koreans before that time.

I agree we are not policeman SD, but we are all a part of the United Nations and we signed a pact that means that we are policemen and peacekeepers from time to time.

At no time have they said there will be troops on the ground in Syria.

Everyone is just overreacting.

Now if they end up putting troops there, then you can say I told you so.

We will never learn that War and Politics don`t mix. War and politics have allways gone hand in hand, be it the romans expanding their lands, or hannibal getting his revenge. Same shit different day.

Politicians are cowards by birth and need others to do the shity jobs, allways was, allways will be.

Me for my part, you sign that dotted line you go where they send you and don`t bitch, you know what job you are signing up for, you don`t like it, don`t join or leave. It realy isn`t f*cking rocket science. The days of Conscription or the draft are long gone, you jon because its something you want to do.

Should we go? Bollox let them kill them selves with their f*cked up beliefs, who are we to dictate what they should and shouldn`t do.

Look at it this way, in theatre you get the usual, only shoot if shot at briefings. what is the difference here? let them have their rope to hang themselves and when one side wins and decides "Ohh chem weapons, I can use them against the world" then we can nuke the f*ckers when the first is launched.

Maybe I wasn't clear about the war and politics thing. So, I'll be more specific.

There was a batallion of Marines, SPECIFICALLY 2/5, 1ST MARINE DIVISION who were ordered to re-take Hue during the Tet offensive. They went in out numbered and out gunned, and slugged it out day after bloody day. Now, it didn't have to be as bad as it was cause they had massive air and artillery support at their disposal.

But, they didn't use that fire power because they were ordered not to distroy the buildings because of their historical value. That's right, in the first days of the battle if a few more Marines got killed in order to save some buildings, that was OK with the politicians.

Now, I don't care if those Marines enlisted, were drafted or were shit on a stump and the sun hatched them out. If it meant saving the life of one Marine I'd blow up historical sites til hell froze over.

We go down the same roads, take the same villages and capture the same ground time after time. We did it in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. WHY??????? Because they were limited conflicts. So, what the hell is a limited conflict?????? Does that mean you just kind of kill the other guy.

No, actually it's war damn it. And, if those who are thrown into it aren't allowed to properly defend themselves becasue of bull shit politics, then a lot of good men and women are gonna get killed needlessly.

Once those in power put ships to sea, planes in the air and boots on the ground, they have to get the hell out of the way and let the warriors fight backed by the total commitment of those who send them. Other wise, stay out of the fight.

SD

It's is not a war. It is a missile strike on airports and hardened missile sites. There will be no "boots on the ground." (I hate that expression.)

We postured a strong military stance and finally got Syria to get rid of its sarin gas. That's quite a victory if we can pull it off. But no one should be allowed to use chemical/biological weapons in war. It's an intolerable condition.

And the answer is Yes, I would go.

Ya, I would go too. In fact I did, saying the same thing. "Hell yes, if my country needs me, I'm there".

But Ya know, when I needed my country to simply allow me to defend myself my country's leaders were busy playing catch me come f#@k me with the other side.

On this one night we picked up VC approaching our position. We caught them through our infra-red scopes. When asking for permission to fire we were asked. "How do you know they're VC".

The answer was so simple even politicians could understand. "They're carring rifles".

We were told to keep watching. So, we lit them up with search lights, and watched them run back into the jungle. Wonder how many Marines those guys killed.

Call it an air strike, missle strike, limited action, police action or whatever, if you send a high explosive device into the territory of another nation, blow up something there and kill people, it's an act of war.

Jimmy said it. ".......we are all a part of the United Nations and we signed a pact that means that we are policemen and peacekeepers from time to time". OK, if a nation is a clear threat to the rest of the world because it's run by a bunch of maniacs, then action is appropriate. Once the action starts political leaders can't get in the way of those who put their lives on the line.

God, if there was ever a trigger for me this is it. I can't stand the thought of good men and women dying over BULLSHIT. Either do it or stay the hell out of it.

Sorry guys, I quit. I can't deal with this anymore. It hits too close to home. The dragon is tearing me up.

Wish we could bomb this thread

Yeah, me too. I think we've expressed it all here. Please just turn the channel from the news. Watch spongebob, or Nat'l Geo, or just turn it off. Way too much speculation as to what is or isn't going to or should or shouldn't be done.

Just a reminder, there are people here that we know that need our help. Again the Irish prayer comes to mind: God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, accept the things I can't and the wisdom to know the difference.

The whole stupid thing about this thread and Syria, nobody has responded apart from the UN team, that is it.

The Pres may have moved a few pieces around the chess board, and the combined forces most likely will have their ghosts in the night observing targets, but that is it.

If more innocent civilians die, then someone needs to help.

But no troops have moved or done anything like that, so I don't know why people around the world are going off half cocked saying 'Don't send our boys', and shit like that, there has not been one little breath about that.
