would it be helpful for supporters/ sufferers of 'non-combat' PTSD? I'm thinking about getting this for me and my partner to read but the reviews say it's pretty focused on combat PTSD.

@Momofthree It has sections on combat PTSD, but a lot of it deals with general PTSD symptoms and methods of treatment. A lot of it also deals with communication and conflict resolution. A lot of it would definitely be helpful to any supporter.

Like @Sweetpea76 outlined, a small portion of it covers combat relationships, the majority of it is civilian oriented, covers complex trauma support and mostly communication and conflict resolution aspects specific to PTSD.

Most book will cover combat and complex trauma, nearly one and the same, but both of those have unique and specific issues than any other type of trauma, regardless of PTSD. Supporters need to understand those differences and complexities with them both, compared to other trauma types.

If you don't know what you're dealing with, you don't know how to approach it and the issues. This book is like a map for a spouse or family member on how to get through to a PTSD sufferer, how to help them help themselves, but not enable them.

Sense when do you care about the secularism or not of your opinion Anthony? Bible reference troublesome .... really? Good f'cking grief. It is a sound book reference. Just leave it at that. Read it, and it is assistive.

Does buying it work or do you actually need to read it .

Just thinking along the lines of the bible so many people have on their bookshelves....
