I agree. We need to nationalize a safety protocol for schools. We dont really get the training we need because of funding and fear.we dont want to talk about it. I am amazed that there is never a conversation about what to do in an assembly or if yours is the first classroom a shooter enters. My husband is a teacher and am doing my best to try and be supportive and listen to his fears. He has...
And @She Cat I disagree. Lock down procedures can and do save lives.
A highschool down the street from us had one fatality. While this is sad in this case the lock down that school practiced worked.
Unfortunately, gun men, know now to pull the fire alarm. We need to research and get more clever.
I know what to do in my area of the school.
It is about fleeing to the surrounding neighborhood.
In the columbine shooting they had bombs in the parking lot, though, so that is why the lock down. It really can work.
So fleeing or staying could be good or bad options as in every emergency, there are good or bad options. It all depends.
That ability to think critically and choose the right option needs to be in our training.
The ability to handle a gun man needs to be as well.
Even if it is throwing a trash can at the person.
We need to get clever with this.
As far as coping skills I really wish my school could talk about it and come together as a community.
I am doing better, though I still hate the world.
I know there is beauty in the world.
