Tight-laced boots, steel-toes, miled-out; supple, brushed, oiled; being grounded, connected and silent.
Ephemeral draws in flood, steep sloped ravine; wind blows and widow makers. Pieces of hate expelled with each footfall, each exhalation.
Wild berries, red, blue, purple. Bees and butterflies, no-see-ums and swarms of flies. Rose hips, bright orange lilies and willow thickets. Prairie chickens, woodpeckers and rabbit warrens.
Waist deep mud. Cold and greasy. No additives, preservatives, artificial colours or odourants; city chicks pay for it, but I got to bathe for free because my bear trigger hit and I tried leaping the hole. Thank you Br'er Bear for scaring the shit out of me and reminding me that there is life yet inside me.
