I know it’s a cake-ish dessert, we sell tins of it over here; but I always sort of imagine the reaction here being sort of similar to what a can of Frosted Fanny would evoke across the pond. Some things? Are just… wrong. 🙈
Hijacking..

Like the Scottish guy who walked into the store I worked in. He had a slightly pissed off but resigned look on his face and said he was looking for rain gear and indicated lowers. I asked if he was looking for rain trousers. I can still see the look of relief on his face. Then he told me how horrified he was when he first moved here and his new buddy phoned and asked him what color pants he was wearing that day.

Here pants are what you wear on top, GB, they are what men wear underneath.....🇨🇦

Jam. Jam. Jam. Jaaaaaaaaaaam!!! 🤩

Most American jams/jellies/preserves/marmalades/fruit-spreads (whatever one calls the exact method takes fruit and jar-i-fies it to spread on toast) not only have 4 thousand ingredients (possible slight exaggeration)… but even most of the super-posh-über-organic-whatever’s STILL use dairy products as anti foaming agents. Even the “vegan” ones. But then there’s a helluva lot of animal products in “vegan” foods… just one step removed. As I’m not vegan, I don’t particularly care if they wanna serve a ribeye with my whatever. (Actually, I would care. Please. Do that more.) But I DO care when it’s some vitamin/mineral/enzyme protein/lipid/sugar that activates turning me into a volcano 🌋. No bueno. Totally worthless superpower to melt from the inside out.

But THESE?!?

4-5 ingredients.

None of which I’m allergic to.

Jam. Jam. Jam. Jam.

Jam on toast for dinner for meeeeeeeeee! 💕

I avoid jam. Too much sugar (pretty sure here that's the definition of jam - it has above a certain concentration of refined sugar...as opposed to unadulterated fructose, which I'll take a hundred ways any day of the week)! That particular brand does one helluva blackberry 100% fruit spread, which is like a jar of joy!!
 
Fortnum and Mason Strawberry Preserves. Three ingredients, Strawberries Gelling agent (pectin) and lemon juice. It's awesome - when I can put my hands on it.

Somewhere back years ago we used to get a store brand Strawberry Jam that was the same. It was sooo good, tasted like they were stuffing the jar with fresh picked strawberries right in the field.....
