LMAO… So, in the States & Canada we have gyro shops everywhere (Greek) but only a handful of Doner (Turkish) & Schwarma (Middle Eastern & Turkish) shops. There is only ONE Doner shop in my city of 2-3million, and only 2 in the entire multistate region (pop over 50million). There are about a dozen Schwarma shops in the same region, a few hundred halal stores that sell schwarma, thousands of Gyro shops, and tens of thousands of places that sell Gyros. Yep. 2 doner shops. In total.

I’d never even heard of a Doner, before going to the UK, and just thought Schwarma meant bbq meat (it does? But in the west, it is a specific type of bbq). My brother likes doners better than gyros. I like gyros better. They’re basically the same durn thing. Just different proportions of meat & spices in the cone.

The UKs long history with Turkey (taking Egypt from Turkey, just a more recent part of it) & our MASSIVE Greek population, explain the difference. (Let’s not start talking yogurt! It could get dangerous!)

@Friday Yeah, we have doner kebab shops (Turkish) everywhere. When I used to do a delivery driving job once, I dropped off some stuff inside a place that put the meat together for kebabs. As soon as I got outside... I puked. I don't eat them anymore.
