General What Do You Look Forward To?

Reading a few "Goal for the Day" and Long Term Goal" postings, I suddenly realised that I don't really have any :wideeyed:. Well, I have a few, but they just seem to get squashed by the PTSD Monster :sorry:. So I was wondering what it is that keeps Supporters going? I don't mean things like a miracle cure or anything like that, but realistic things that you can look forward to.

I'll give you a little example of the squashing... I've been thinking about changing my car - which may not sound like a big deal but we don't change them often and I've had mine for 6 years now. I was going to sell it and get something less expensive so we would have the money spare for house move fees.

I've always wanted an Isuzu Trooper with a van back (yes really!) but they are like hen's teeth! Anyway, one came up not far from us - the first one in 6 months of looking, so I showed it to Husband who looked at it for abut 5 seconds and simply said "you must be able to get better than that". End of conversation.

It goes on quite a lot and I just feel as if I need a "me goal" or some sort of light at the end of this god awful tunnel...

I too have a few goals Toria, but they get squashed by the PTSD monster too.

Like trying my hardest to decorate my house from top to bottom. I got the bathroom and kitchen done, but the rest has come to a stand still, and its driving me nuts.

I have lots of small goals, which I usually manage to keep, but they are only small for now.

I am a caregiver for my husband who has the beginning stages of dementia and ptsd. He is very negative and worries so much about things. We are going to the bank so he can start over 2 new bank accounts. We already have 2 now. I will not be embarrassed, but as for goals, mine are very small. It is a clasutrophobic way to live. I have ptsd also and it plays havoc with me as I am the responsible one now. I hope you get your car. It is a monster. How do you keep your spirits up?

Gizmo, I know this sounds simplistic. Hard to do when stressed, but I try hard to use the "other" cup analogy. I try to maintain a "cup half full" not "cup half empty". I am human and absolutely fail at it at times, but that is part of my strategy.

Ish, Thank you very much for the kind reminder. I have made a commitment to myself to be positive instead of neg. I am on my third day and it is better today than it was yesterday. I realize that I will have bad no good horrible days, but they are no longer going to be allowed to call the shots. I will use the cup half full in my new tool kit I am building. I am committed to building me a new and better life taking tiny baby steps one at a time. Thanks so much for the kind response. It really helped me out today. Bless you. Big hugs.

It's one day at a time. Celebrate the steps of progress and strive for that, but know that you are human and accept the setbacks. Ever mindful that tomorrow is a new day and a chance to move forward again.

Thank you for the replies Amethist & ISH - and Gizmo I'm sorry I never replied to you... but I don't have the answer to your question! There are days when I just feel do far down that I can't seem to pick myself up and get on with things. It doesn't last too long, but on those days there just doesn't seem to be anything to look forward to or be positive about :wideeyed:

So - I will be taking a leaf out of your book and looking for the positive in every negative

Day One: I'm very busy - looking on the bright side - I have a job and will be paid at the end of the month...

I am looking forward to the fact that I made a serious heart commitment to myself to build a new life for me. It will take time, but I will do it. I have done it before and I can do it again. I look forward to it each and every day.

I am looking forward to my new fencing coming tomorrow.

We are having a gardener sort the front garden out for us, it got so out of hand and I could not sort it, even with a bit of help from hubby, then it will be up to me to keep up to it.

I am looking forward to today. It is a brand new day. There has not been a day like it. We have alot to do.

I look forward to the days I spend with my family. They are alot of fun.
