What will happen at my mental health assessment?

Hi everyone.I was wondering what will happen when I go for the mental assessment and what could happen next??

I'm in the UK. To see what actually im suffering with but dont know who with atm. Think there's a waiting list so I'll probably won't know anything else till I hear from them. I'd like to recieve professional help and hopefully like a name for whatever im suffering with.

As you are in the UK, It depends, if it is an assessment with IAPT, talking therapies, you won’t get a diagnosis, therapists don’t diagnose. You’ll only get a diagnosis if you have been referred to a psychiatrist.

In the UK, it has depended massively on location etc who you get referred to first, do you have any idea? Usually iapt has an assessment with a cpn (community psych nurse) who decides if they can help, and/or if they're gonna refer you onto psychologist or psychiatrist.

therapists don’t diagnose. You’ll only get a diagnosis if you have been referred to a psychiatrist.

Psychologists can also diagnose here So in some cases, that is a person's therapist although yeah not all. Just psychologists can't prescribe meds.
