When I Get Angry Or Upset I Punch Myself

I thought maybe there's something wrong

Well being that its a form of self harm, it would be classified as self harm. Do you have a therapist?

Also, on much older threads, its not as likely people will see your post so if you are looking for input, make a thread of your own. Not that you did anything wrong, I just wanted to advise of less input then if you made your own thread.
 
Self harm has been an unhealthy way I have dealt with stress over half of my life. It started with hitting, turned to cutting for the majority of it. Then back to punching my legs when I get overwhelmed.

This is common for people who have been abused, especially if the abuse came at a young age. We don't really have the tools to manage our emotions in the most healthy ways. It's not bad, just not sustainable. I made the choice that I wanted to move past this habit, and started therapy. It's not fool proof, but it has been about nine months since the last time I hurt myself.

I don't know if it's better, worse or neutral, but I have found myself so determined to change this habit that my response is now disassociation instead of an overwhelming feeling resulting in self harm. I know I need to work past that too, and I am working on it. But it seemed to be my replacement when I forced myself to not act on the thoughts.
