My New Therapist Terminated Me

Via a text msg and im still in shock. I thought it was going well. I want to know if this is enough to report a therapist for doing harm.

At minimum they are required to give you referrals.

How many sessions had you done with them? And what are they licensed as?

Sounds really shitty. By text? Grrrrr...

I think 8 sessions. But in session on Tues she said we were doing good work. I dont think I was moving fast enough from my other T to her full time. But its only been a week

Do you mind explaining what you said about switching to her full time - was that something that had a clear deadline? (Not saying this is your fault, just looking to understand)

That is horrible, NH. I don't know anything about malpractice laws or I would say more. I cannot believe she was so inconcievably rude to you.

I was seeing her once a week and my other therapist twice a week. The new one asked me a week ago to start ramping down with my other therapist. Wich I had just started doing. This was never the intention when I first started therappy with her. She was supposed to be an addition not a change of therapists for me. SOmething changed and I dont know what that is

The legal issue you are referring to is called 'abandonment'.

The article linked, above, is specific to the state of CA - forgive me, because I don't remember where your residence is. But most of the info in the article applies to the national social worker code of ethics.

Her text states that she thinks that she is hearing me say I do not want to attend a group. I said I was willing once we discused some tools I could use bc of my learning diabilties and asked if I could record. WHen I was told I couldnt record the learning group I sent a msg saying I dont think the group is going to wk for me. This is the text I recieved.

"Ok I hear you saying group will not work for youwich means RO dbt will also not work. SO I wont be able to be your therapist. We can meet Tuesday to terminate or you can cancelthat appointment. Let me know what you want to do"

Did she say anything about conflict of interest?

I'm sorry to say that what she's doing is allowed. She asked you to add a specific course of treatment, you're declining, she's informing you that she can't treat you.

Sucks regardless.

I'm surprised there isn't a disability accommodation, though, for recording.

No that was her whole text. I am in so much shock I was willing to work on a plan to get me the info I needed to be able to attend the group. I thought we were making brogress
