I’d also like to do the horribly American thing about finding family in the highlands... but all my family was outlawed ((hence why they came here <cough> )) So I’d just be cheating. No no! I have, ah, faaaaaamily here. <cough>

I’ve just been stuck too much in the cold dreich rain cold rain for too long to do it any time soon! I’d like to dry out, first. Which might take a few years. I think I spotted rust last week.

Hahhaa. Every American I have met irl has been "part Scottish" n it's probably a true enough statement for them all, not doubting it. It's just funny to me how common it seems to be.

LMAO. Irish is even worse... there are more Irish-Americans than Irish people!

It’s a weird thing over here... most of us grow up listening to our grandparents, great grandparents, parents talking about where we’re “from”. Creates this odd cultural thing I’ve never found anywhere else I’ve lived.

<<<< Is the personification of a Viking Invasion.

Scottish, Irish, English, Norwegian in roughly equal parts... with a smattering of Syrian, Native American, and prolly a bit o milk-man. Just statistically speaking. It would make a lot more sense to go matrilineal but noooooo.

AKA good ole American mutt.

Hahaha, it's funny to me, because my mum is Scottish right back to the 1400s (one of her aunts traced it, she's as Scottish as they come). My dads dad was born in Ireland and my dad considers himself fully Scottish too. So when people are like "my great great gran was born in Scotland.." I'm like "um, my actual grandad that I met was Irish and I'm still 100% scottish tho..?"

N I had a roommate from USA once who thought Scotland was a city in England, then told me her family were 6% English, n that may have affected how confused I am by this 😂

Oooooh. That’s painful.
It actual went:
"Where you from?"
"Glasgow"
"Uh where?..."
"Uh Scotland"
"Where???"
"Um like above England? The UK?"
"Omg no wonder I've never heard of it. It's just a city in England.. if you'd just said England.."

I am not a pure patriotic Scot. But omg.
