Gday all

I deployed as a grunt to afghanistan 2010 (mtf-1) with 6RAR, for those not in the know, it was pretty messed up - the stuff that happens - i was able to deal with at the time by completely shutting off emotion, my section labelled me as a cold prick and didnt really want anything to do with me when not on patrol. It was the only way I could keep it together. Got home, crawled into a bottle until it didnt help me anymore. I got diagnosed around april 2011 with ptsd and have been trying to work out which way is up ever since. I am now awaiting med discharge because of mental and physical problems.

Happy to talk to anyone that wants advice with DVA, taken it upon myself to learn all their ins and outs, to hopefully lessen their blows when it comes to it.

We all handle things differently. Some people laugh when they are afraid, others whimper. Shutting yourself off is a natural thing that we are all taught.

Welcome Panda. Some of us tried to figure "which way was up" for decades. Me....... 20 years of f*cking up. You are in a good place.

Does not matter where you been or how it happened, we are all the same here with the Beast, Brother.

If I may, a quote that caught my eye.

"going back to living the way the rest of the world lives gives combat veterans serious problems.
Other people have not had their experience. In being blooded, the soldier has become
a member of an exclusive club, which has high membership fees".

Thanks for the welcomes

Welcome to the fold Panda mate. The quote is right on the mark. Pity somany people just don`t get it.

So pull up a pew and chill, rant, ask or what ever.

Welcome aboard Panda. The quote is a good one. I wish my co-workers could understand where I am coming from. Maybe I should post that in my cube at work.

To those who didnt serve I think its just words. The real meaning is the loss we all feel. Something is taken and not returned when you face combat. The price for us was the botteling up of the stress, horror and anger. Some (in my view the lucky ones) paid not just with that but with life. EVERY combat vet has lost something. Thats the biggest shame. That people dont get that.
Anyway, Welcome Panda! Glad your here, I just wish you didnt have the PTSD.
