I've read 6 of the 7 ptsd and/or self help books i've bought this past month, and most of which discuss what ptsd is. Can someone recommend a book discussing what now to do about it? (therapies, etc etc). Thanks.

Have you read "The Body Keeps the Score" or "Complex PTSD- from Surviving to Thriving"? I haven't finished either, but they are really good and I believe that there are sections about the different types of therapy in each of those books.

yes thank you, The Body Keeps the Score was a great book! I remember the Dr. writing in depth about EMDR. My T and I are somewhat skeptical of it, but considering it. I also remember Somatic Therapy, but don't really understand it well enough yet. CBT of course is standard and I'm told I'm already doing it I guess. The second book sounds good, as I believe C-PTSD is more my flavor. Thank you for the tip! I put it i my amazon wish list.

Why not a therapist? Im just wondering is all, sorry if Im prying or anything

Personally I only have this one for PTSD:

I also own this DBT Workbook:

And I havent started on this one yet, my dad got it for me for Christmas and after I told my therapist about it he got it and read it and said it was great:

Berne Brown was in Ted Talk, Oprah's Super Soul Sunday (where I saw her), and Oprah's Super Sessions I think they are called. That was was about trust, was wonderful.

Those look like great suggestions, thanks! Particularly the dialectical one..i'm on that for sure.
I do have a therapist, and just got back from a session. She has some good suggestions, but she misses a lot of books. I like to share my finds with her as well. Thanks again for the tips, they're now in my wish list! Have a good one!

Buying books can get expensive. I'm not sure if you live in a state with an awesome library system like I do, but definitely check out your local library. (The catalogue is probably online.) Anything my local library doesn't have I can order from elsewhere in the state and if not available in my state I can even order from out of state. It's saved me a ton of $$$ on books.

Brene Brown is great in her Ted Talks and videos. She has 4 books- Rising Strong is her latest one and I have read about half of it (and then had to return it back to the library, got my own copy, but haven't finished it yet, but I like it). I really enjoyed Daring Greatly. I also liked I Thought It Was Just Me. She also wrote The Gifts of Imperfections, but I didn't really like that one as much. The one thing you want to be careful about reading Brene Brown books, and she will even state this, is that they aren't written for people with deeper trauma. That doesn't mean they aren't helpful and uplifting though, just that it can take longer to get to where she's leading us to think.

Yeah, I figured. I watched Oprah's Super Soul Sunday which was about Risin' Strong and my dad happened to be watching it with me. It seems a lot like a good mild self help book but up my alley. I was going to sort of use it as a "slow down" sort of book as Im stuck strong in my DBT workbook right now. I even downloaded some DBT apps and skipped around a bit and for some reason, my brain isnt wanting to grasp a word. I started strong in it and now in stuck.

Also stuck in the PTSD book so now its Risin Strong or a book my friend on another site sent me:

Dead Link Removed

Seems like more mildfulness. But hey, another book for the OP ;)

I think Risin' Strong might be a better one for now.

***Sigh*** Books! :wtf: I'm dyslexic and feel like Im drowning in books. Now I want to get a few for Interpersonal Skills but I found apps for that too so I might get the apps instead.

thats a good point. How did I forget about libraries? haha. I have an Audible account and work alone, so I listen to audio books about 3-4 hours a night. It passes the time. In my Audible package, I get two books a month, unless I pay for more, which I do. What I can't find on Audible, I buy used if I can on Amazon. Not a voracious ready by any means, but when something affects me or my health, I wanna absorb all I can find about it.
