Burst of Adrenaline

I'm just trying to get a handle on this and a better understanding of it.

I am in the process of doing some remodeling in my condo, so the stuff that was in the room I'm working on is basically all over the place. I'm not a great housekeeper to begin with, and now I'm just missing things like spills because there is no room anywhere (or there wasn't before yesterday).

I forgot to take out the garbage that was in my kitchen can, and yesterday when I opened it, there were fly larvae *everywhere*. I wanted to be an entomologist when I was little, and typically no insects bother me, but these--I simply canNOT tolerate them. Not sure why. I have an intense visceral response--nauseated, shaky, increased heart rate, etc. That's what happened yesterday. I very quickly:

1. Double-bagged the garbage
2. Took the can in the bathroom and ran it in the shower under hot water
3. Cleaned the floor
4. Put on my shoes
5. Took the bag to the dumpster (which is about a min's drive away)

At the dumpster, I also deposited a *very* heavy construction bag that was filled with 3 pieces of wood that had been a desk.

But here's the thing. The construction bag was NOT heavy. At all. The entire process (all of the above) took less than 10 mins, less than half the time it would normally take. And I had NO pain walking, going up or down the stairs, or at any point.

I felt really *good* when it was all done. Like, wow-give-me-a-pill-that-will-do-this good.

Adrenaline surge?

Whatever it was, I've never felt this before that I can recall. I get very anxious sometimes, but it only feels horrible. And it's not accompanied by the other stuff. This got me thinking about how I respond to threats. I think I always internalize it.

Is this a fright vs flight thing?

i have experienced similar with the awareness that a psychosis had been triggered and i successfully channeled it into constructive action. it has since been a repetitive theme in my recovery. it is like a collateral high when i discover that one of my psycho ticks can actually be useful when used well and conscientiously. i have since come to believe that it is better to train than to cure.

Yes definitely, adrenaline can cause pain numbing properties. And since the fly larvae made you uncomfortable, depends on how much it's bothered you, it also sounds more like a rush of endorphins to help stay calm enough to get the job done.

I would have reacted the same, in this situation. My visceral responses, they can be extremely strange and it sometimes freaks me out. I had a talk to my new T today about this issue. I told him my bodily response to certain things are scary and confusing sometimes. I guess for me I never learned about how to read/trust my bodily responds to things or protect myself, therefore the frighten and flight happens. He said it was just that, my body is responding to a perceived threat. Seeing as I have little or no relationship with body’s intuition my body produces adrenaline🧚‍♂️
