General Close Friend Needs Help

A very close friend of mine just told me she was sexually abused when she was younger, and that I am the first person she has ever told. She told me this in confidentiality so I will not give out anything that could be considered any kind of personal information. Unfortunatly, she is not of age to come to this site, but I feel like I need to get her some kind of help. I told my PTSD girlfriend once that I thought this friend may have been abused, but she told me it wasn't possible because she acts pretty much the complete opposite towards sex. What do I do???? I don't want to violate her trust, but I think she needs to come out and tell somebody, especially her parents.

God I feel sick.....I can't believe that there are so many men in this world that would abuse little girls......

I understand your friend is not of legal age to register on this site. Is she 13 or older? If so, you could direct her to the Survive Sexual Abuse (SSA) website. There is a link to the site at the bottom of this post.

One in three girls is molested by age 18, and at any one time it's estimated that 10% of homes have an incestuous relationship currently occurring. While that's terrifying, she should know that she's NOT alone, this was NOT her fault, and that she is STRONGER for seeking help. The best thing you can do is BELIEVE HER because that's typically a sexual abuse victim's greatest fear-- that someone won't believe them. Her telling you is an important step, so she's on the right track. Many victims don't talk about their abuse for decades, when it's far too late to legally seek retribution.
