So my father and step father abused me as child, step dad more-so as teen as well.

Neither are in my direct life anymore, but when they were talked about i dreamed about them, and the fear or seeing them/anger just gets lot all over again.

Anyone else end up being re-triggered and then dreaming about their abusers when they get talked about?

I dream about my abuser with some regularity. It kind of makes me feel sick when it happens. But I remember how hard I'm working on my trauma, and it would be strange to be so focused on something without my subconscious bringing up the source of it from time to time. When I remember that, I'm able to let it go more easily.

All the dreams I can remember feature mine these days >.< I feel you there.

I hate how our brains just can't stop intruding with that shit, no escape even in sleep.

I have had worse dreams, or more prominent dreams, after things like EMDR sessions, therapy, other triggering things. I think we're just more prone to dream about that sort of stuff though.

If you spend your day focusing on something, or experiencing something a lot, then you're more likely to dream about that.

Cleaning clams was like that for me. Every day I did clam cleaning, I dreamed about it that night - because clam cleaning was like 18 hours of an extremely repetitive task, so I would -always- dream about it. Worry about something all day, or do some task all day, and theres a good chance it'll crop up in your dreams.

I'm so glad I'm not alone on this.

It doesn't need to be a big long reminder, just mentioning them and talking about them for like... 30 min. Just thinking about them stresses me out, maybe it's feeling the stress deeply in the day, that i dream about the stress that night?

I know it's sooo my subconscious. I wish we could just talk about it and deal with the feelings and not have to deal with it again when trying to sleep.

Yes, it’s very normal.

This is how many non-ptsd dreams happen, too. All it takes is one mention of something and boom, it’s the subject of your next dream.
