How Do I Deal With Exhaustion?

Should I try and sleep when I feel so exhausted? Even when it's during the day? I know normally they advise not to do that but I'm so exhausted man haha. Any advice for how to help this?

I used to feel bad about being so tired. Took a long while but T finally convinced me to treat it with rest. She says it's a signal of the nervous system resetting or shifting. So some days I take several naps. If I'm at work, I get creative. Overall not judging myself and resting has really helped. And the intensity of the fatigue has lessened.

You haven't given us much to go on, so it's hard to say.

Do what you need to do. If you are sleeping adequately at night but are still tired during the day, maybe you are extra stressed and just need the extra rest.

Thanks a lot guys :)). I just read it was best not to sleep during the day coz it effects your sleep at night but I'm so tired, like zombie tired, I feel like I need the sleep...

When I get to the point of exhaustion I'm know I'm not going to get anything productive done and my body needs the rest so I head off to snoozeville for a 30 minute nap. Sometimes that's enough to be able to get going again.

Actually sleep begets sleep so I believe a nap in the right quantity ie. power napping 30mins and definitely no longer than 1hr30min can help get you back on track. I am a chronic insomniac. That overtired adrenaline spike only gets worse when prolonged and makes it harder to get to sleep at night. Once you get that rush it's too late and you're even more alert than before, exhausted or not! Just my experience

Power naps are helpful. What I sometimes do is, I drink a cup of tea or coffee and then take a nap. The caffeine takes about 45 minutes to work, so I know my body will begin to slowly rouse me after about 45 minutes.

Just enough time to recharge my batteries, but the caffeine keeps me from sleeping so long as to preclude sleep later that night.

My problem is I hate naps because I feel like I waste the day. I have come to grudgingly acknowledge that like everyone has said here it's about balance. There are times where I'm DEAD TIRED, and need a nap. And there are other times where I'm bored or don't want to deal with something and my body is like "Can we nap?" I just need to be able to realize the difference.

I'm another firm believer in napping if you need it. I went through a stage of barely being able to move and sleeping all the time to now really only needing a nap occasionally at weekends if I've overdone it during the week. If your body is telling you rest, rest - if I couldn't sleep I would lie in my room with the radio on quietly and doze/listen.

Your body and mind need rest to heal, so be kind to yourself if at all possible.

For myself it depends. If I need to sleep myself out for a day or three? No biggie. If I start sleeping 20-23 hours a day? That will stretch for several weeks to several months... My life grinding to a halt... And needs to be forced through.

I wish I could have a nap during the day, but even though I feel totally shattered I just sleep?

It's the same thing at nights, in fact I can't remember the last time I slept through a whole night, it was that long ago?

Some ideas

-- Sleep Hygiene (she says posting past midnight!) going to bed sometime between 9:30-11pm.
I was doing this for a while last year it helped and reduced stress levels.

-- Food. This effects energy A LOT. Some foods deplete, some give.

-- Vitamin deficiency? Might be worth a check with your doctor.

-- Exercise. In my experience it tends to give energy, when I can do some!

Wishing you well.
