My Body Jumps A Little Now And Then?

My body jolts a bit, out of my control. It is just a slight movement and I think it has been caused by nerves, but it freaks me out a little. (Upsets me). Has this ever happened to you? Do you think it is some kind of nervous reaction or something like that? It has been happening for several days now, just occasionally, like twice or three times a day.

It could very well be side effects of meds. Or pent up anxiety n your muscles are reacting. I get this occasionally. Sometimes I feel like gonna jump off the bed. I think sonetimes I didn't drink enough fluids. Which can cause muscle cramps. Either way. I have experienced off and in for years. I is a weird feeling when body does involuntary movements. The can also be mini strokes. TICs I think
I'd tell my doc what u ate experiencing
Peace

Happens to me frequently. My therapist and doctor have both said it is from nervous system disregulation from trauma. The less anxiety I have the better it is. It has improved since i started therapy but often shows up again when we are working on the scariest stuff.

Happens for me enough that i've been diagnosed with daytime myclonic jerks. My doc and therapist both think it's side effect of my body trying to process trauma. For me, it's ususally it's concurrent with other PTSD symptoms me getting worse and gets better when other symptoms do too.

There could be many reasons for it. It be worth getting checked out by a doc to make sure it's anxiety related.

Any time this happens, I consider it on 3 levels:
1. The jerk might be from too much pressure, on my physical body, that causes a neuro-muscular caused jerk.
2. When the jerk happens, I ask myself to distinctly notice, the thought that I had, just prior to, or while it occurred. (My body may be responding to the thought that I just had.)
3. Also, I believe that a deep traumatic reflexive response/jerk occurs, when my subconscious or unconscious wants to signal me, (that despite my lack of conscious awareness), that due to a similarity of my past with the present moment, that I am uncomfortable. It is kind of like a "be aware, and make a choice" message, to my conscious self.

Interesting mindbody info. Good to share the conversation.

This started for me a few months ago. A sudden jolt that makes me feel like I was just electrocuted (not the feeling of electricity coursing through me but the feeling that "something else" made me jolt suddenly.

I just assumed (scared to ask doc?) it was due to meds. Interesting conversation.... Loving the replies :)

I wouldn't worry too much. I get that and become freaked out and jump to the worst place: WebMD. I get numbness too sometimes. I know its my nerves. And I get numbness in my face sometimes because of clenching.
There could be many reasons for it. It be worth getting checked out by a doc to make sure it's anxiety related.

I agree with Justmehere just to ease your mind. Best of Luck. Rising Sun.

I've been having intermittent jolting for about a year now. I don't take any medications. There are lots of names for involuntary movements, depending on who you talk to...but pretty sure it is all nervous energy releasing. Sometimes mine are just "jolts" other times more like body memories that are detached from other kinds of memory. (I find both pretty deeply disturbing.) The kinds of movements I get are fairly predictable. I've heard the term kriyas from a yoga therapist, non-epileptic seizures, psychogenic agitation, trauma energy. I'd not heard the term "myclonic jerks" (thanks @Justmehere!). There seems to be no pattern to mine, although they are particularly bad when I am lying down on the floor to meditate and/or relax my back. Good idea to talk to your therapist about it. Maybe your doctor too, but I know if I tell my doctor about it, he'll want to run me through all sorts of tests so I avoid that (he does not get PTSD).

Thanks everyone, Keep those experiences you are having coming, I need to hear all the feedback I can get. I will talk to my therapist about it, but as long as it is an uncommon experience and not a daily one (I have not had them today), I think I will skip telling my MD. I don't want to be going through all those tests either, I CAN'T AFFORD THEM!

Hi SheilaKathy, not sure if you are on any meds but when I was on Prozac I would have body movement jerks often. (arms and legs) When I stop taking the Prozac the mild jerking movements stopped completely . Doctor did say that the jerking was a side effect of meds and it proved true for me.
