Tomorrow morning, I will be going for my first therapy session. I have no idea what to expect, I'm very nervous, I have social anxiety disorder and tomorrow will be my confirming diagnosis for PTSD. As far as I know, when I have a flash back I go really stiff and stare blankly into space, or I start to cry. So I don't really want my therapist to see me like that on the first day... I have no idea what I should expect... Any suggestions?

Turn it around. :) Instead of worrying what they'll think of you, focus on what you think of them. The first several sessions are usually <singing> Getting to knoooooow you.... While clearly the focus will be on them getting to know you, your problems & strengths, what you need help with & what they can do... Also you know you're interviewing them as well.

Try not to worry, your T may not confirm a PTSD diagnosis in your first session - it really is a getting to know you to see whether you can work together. You don't need to talk about anything you don't want to and you can set the pace.

Half hour away from my session and I might be haveing a an anxiety attack. I don't really want to be high on Ativan when I meet him for the first time ..I'll update once it's over!

I hope you are okay, let us know how it went, thinking of you

Sorry I'm only responding now. It went well, we went over grounding techniques and how to control the panic after a flashback. He seems to know what he's doing (obviously) , I feel I could eventually open up to him about my trauma. I have another appointment on Monday! Thank you guys for your replys!
