People I Love Aren't Believing Me :(?

@McCray. You are very brave to be reaching out at a young age. Do you have a therapist to help guide you? Support groups are fantastic but you also deserve the attention to your specific needs a professional can give you. It would be best if they specialize in trauma.

As for your memories, the important thing is to trust your mind and body to inform you. There are researchers especially Elizabeth Loftus that believe in false memories but her work is not supported by the trauma experts.

Hi @McCray,

Welcome to the forum.

Personally, I think memories like this are likely to be real, or at least have a basis in reality. I also feel strongly that friends aren't the people to try to work things like this out with.

Friends aren't trauma therapists. When I say that I mean that trauma therapists are trained to be strong and non-judgemental, they are trained in the things that can happen and the effects of that. They're also trained for the sort of confusion and uncertainty that comes with surfacing memories and impressions.

Friends are just other people our own age who don't know what to make of this sort of stuff.

IMHO, this isn't the kind of thing you can turn to friends for. It's best to talk to a trauma therapist. Is that an option for you?

I have a therapist but she is not specialized in trauma and I intend to see a psychiatrist soon for medication. I am hoping from there I can get a more intensive therapist who specializes in trauma and the main thing that worries me about medication is if it causes me to gain weight and I'm not well informed because I've never taken medications for mental illness
