I actually have plenty of cookies on my PC MissAntiSunshine but thanks anyway :roflmao:... perhaps a picture of a pink star? That would make me happy :)

PS...Anthony's answer gave me a headache...... I like the easier solution :p

I thought Anthony might get that one due to binary logic.

Funny you should ask for a star, Nicolette. I am the worst star-drawer that ever there was. Photo 57.webp

Don't laugh. I think my inner child drew this one. >.<

The ball is heavy thus making the boat sit lower in the water. Dropping the ball into the water will make the boat rise due to simply containing less weight and nothing to do with the water.

As for the water level actually rising, it would depend on the size of the cannon ball & the space the water covers. My guess is that due to the boat being on a lake the canon ball would have minimal impact on the water level but may immaterially increase the spread of water however if the lake was in a contained space there would be an insignificant rise in water level but by definition of 'lake' this would not be the case.

Edited by Nicolette due to seeing a similar answer above which was wrong..doh!

Note to self...don't read these riddles on an iPhone.

I think that because the cannon ball used to be in the boat, which has a very large surface area, and thus suppressing the boat and taking up more surface area, when you drop it into the water, the water will fall, because the cannon ball does not have as much surface area and isn't applying pressure to the water from above, rather being swallowed by it.

:cautious:

Ok... now MissAntiSunshine.... let me grab some book (physics, mathematics, I dunno book) to confirm your theory. :p

I think the simple solution would be a bowl of water, a heavy round thing, and a small plastic container that will fit inside the bowl. This could be fun!

OK I was a history major I am useless with this. But I would guess what MissAntiSunshine said because she seems to be good at these things.

Water falling makes sense to me too because of the surface area of the boat pressing down on the water with more weight in it.
