But I would guess what MissAntiSunshine said because she seems to be good at these things.
Pffft. Says another member who got an account upgrade for being clever!

I'm currently trying to find a new riddle to post. Can't decide.

What are the next two letters?

T E T T F F S _ _

And what English word is pronounced the same even after removing 4 of its 5 letters?

I love this riddle so much and I don't even know why.

*no longer existing smiley*
Your answer is correct, although your explanation is a bit off. :)

The boat sitting on the lake displaces its own weight in water. Same goes for the cannon ball: Being on the boat it displaces its own weight in water.

Drop the cannon ball into the lake and it will displace its own volume in water.

Since the density of the cannon ball (weight by volume) is a lot bigger than that of water, the level of the lake will sink.

My second riddle:

If the question had been about a) a bucket of water that you empty into the lake or b) a block of ice, how would the answer change? And would the answers be effected by c) the boat being a rubber floatation device instead of a wooden barge? :D

I thought these were riddles as I didn't require a PHD.... maybe better go get one so I can answer a riddle?! :p

@hazen: Can you give a hint concerning the letters? A tiny one?

Aww, it's just basic math and physics, Nicolette, nothing to be afraid of ;)

I tried to think of a riddle-riddle for you, but all I could come up with are tasteless jokes (like 'What's blue and lying on the bottom of the swimming pool? - The babysitter's last mistake.')

Oh, wait. I know a classic one:

What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs throughout the day and three legs in the evening?

This is a pretty good one.
What is this...

I never was, always am.

I never was, am always to be.

No one ever saw me nor ever will.

Oh, this is good too. Definitely minimal math involved.

What has one foot on each side and one in the middle?

What are the next two letters?

T E T T F F S _ _

GS?

My logic continued:

T E | T T | F F | S G | S S | H H | R I | R R | J J | Q K | QQ
A B B1 A1 B B1 A1 B B1 A1 B

Pattern A: introduces letters
Pattern B: repeats first letter in A twice
Pattern B1: letter following the second letter from A (or A1) in the alphabet repeated twice

Okay this is hard to explain. Maybe it's wrong. See it better this way:
A:
T E

A1:
SG
RI
QK

B:
T T
S S
R R
Q Q (ascending in the alphabet)

B1:
F F
H H
J J (descending order)

Just got a UK wave then MissAntiSunshine.. Went straight over my head did that one.

Like a huge tidal wave.
