I still feel that something is broken in me. But it's because of life, and choices. Choices of others, choices I've made myself because I didn't know any better.

But shame doesn't rule my life today. If this is as good as it gets, and I've been on this journey a long long time, I am satisfied with me and my life. I am reasonably content. More, lots more than what I had when I started.

I read the book on holiday last week ...really made a lot of sense to me. I liked it that even though he had done the twelve step programme he was not preachy or pushy about it but he acknowledged thats not the only way to heal as the twelve step thing was not my cup of tea and he presented the information in a way that everyone could understand universally. To be honest i do feel like i have been hit by a ton of bricks right now as gaining self awareness is not always very pleasant at first. just need to go with the flow as healing fro m this stuff does not go according to a schedule ( if i had my way it would).

The awareness changes everything in many ways. Glad you read it, and glad you stayed open minded about his own journey. I too, do not believe 12 steps is for everyone. But it helped me to lay a foundation. And I did need the support of people not drinking and drugging to understand my struggles.

This book was a major stepping stone for me. It helped with many many things that came up in the future. Takes time to process and apply, but like all new things we learn on this journey, we get to see many situations where we can use new tools.
