What Was/Is Your Weirdest Symptom?

This is a great thread!

When I am feeling more stressed than normal, I get VERY clumsy! I remember when I was pregnant with my second son and I was at a new OB/GYN's office and they were getting a medical history on me. The nurse noticed bruises all over my legs and arms and asked if there was any domestic violence in my home. Of course, I said no and I saw her write in my chart "denies any abuse at home"!!! Then, when the Dr. came in he questioned me further and finally they believed I was just a clutz.

The other thing is that I break out in hives when i am scared or anxious. I get them on my face, neck and chest like an allergic reaction! I used to use it to my benefit when I was in highschool to get out of class and go to the nurse's office!

Hi

Well, I have all of the above, plus I have ground my teeth and gritted them I have gum disease. I also have braces at the moment because I have chipped my teeth from grinding them. I have to have my bite fixed so my teeth can be capped.

But, probably the weirdest thing is that I forget the name of things, so I just point. I also action the implement I am getting out of the cutlery drawer??? Very weird.

As for the violent and impromptu diarrhoea, it's just a waste of good meal!!! I hate that!!!

I blacked out at a store, when I suddenly did not know where I was or what I was doing there. I began to panic and what seemed like an hour of confusion probably only lasted several minutes. I was at a Wal-Mart in the checkout aisle.

I also experienced word-retrieval problems, but as to whether or not these were from PTSD/Stress, I don't know.

As for the weirdest symptom, which is not the easiest to decide upon since I've had many weird symptoms, I'd have to say it was once while writing about a rape from yrs. prior and resultingly re-living threats of additional rape (repeated theme in nightmares) due to the fact that I was writing. Simultaneously, with days of re-living the whole actual experience while awake, I happened to observe, while using the bathroom, that both inner parts of my upper thigh (I think it's called) were unsually and significantly bruised. .....Truly, this was just too plain weird for me.

And, without going into length here, there is NO reasonable, logical explanation for this having occurred. Another words, the things that sufferers might attribute to possibly having caused this are not of any reality; These bruises just developed, out of nowhere and from nothing other then co-occurring confrontation with memory / nightmares / flashbacks and the re-living of a previous rape.

This was weird, ....and quite frankly to weird to be telling.

goingonhope my wife suffers the same thing but she hasn't got ptsd, has never been raped and we can't think of any reason for them. They don't just appear on the inner thigh but also on the outer. I've tried to talk her into going to the doctors when they appear but as she can still walk, work and isn't in pain she won't go.
I worry that it's a circulation problem or something. It has been randomly occuring for about 5 to 10 years.

Hmm my weirdest sympton .... this is rather hard to put me finger on it. I suppose it has to be the shakes. I can be sat there doing nothing, having no triggers and my hands start sharking and then all of me is. Can never put my finger on what causes this

My wierdest symptom would have to be itching hands. At the most stressful times, the backs of my hands start itching, and no amount of scratching helps. My doctor says that it is just in my mind, that if I ignore it, it will go away. So far, ignoring it hasn't worked.

Wow... interesting read.

I have had the experience of not being able to read simple words. Once I was sitting on a train for 15 minutes before I could make out the words on the scrolling sign thingy...

...and I also get the not being able to remember what things are called and doing the hand action thing. I think my hubby has gotten used to it though as he can usually fill in the "blank" for me unless it is a more unusual item and harder to pantomime! But we have a laugh about it though and it can be quite funny.

I actually have a few weird symptoms that haven't been mentioned yet...

Hearing rain and thunder when it is sunny outside. Drives me nuts when it lasts for days at a time!

Hearing the roar of a cat or lion... like they do in the wild. I look around but there is never anything there...

But the absolute weirdest symptom though that I haven't seen on here as yet is the feeling like my teeth are turning into fangs and my nails into claws. REALLY weird and stressful. At these times I actually have to keep touching my teeth to be reassured that they are still normal size. Even talking about it and writing it out here can start it off so imagine me, sitting here writing this and checking my teeth at the same time to make sure I'm still human!

I was told the same thing by my therepist just yesterday.

I keep having these minor injuries when my focus is off. I am currently losing one fingernail and I cut my left hand by breaking the lamp cover. I was trying to turn the cieling fan on and reached for the chain. It was glass and is no more since it shattered on the floor. At least I did not need stiches.

Have to laugh

I am sorry, but I had to laugh at 'the racha'. My 12 year old son laughs at me all the time for being clumsy. I suppose for me its forgetfulness. Making a coffee then returning to the lounge to find one already there. Looking for the butter knife at dinner when it is in my hand.

The worst would be the IBS and Bruxism (Teeth Grinding). I actually broke two fillings and cracked a tooth.

Hi everyone

Uhm...this is gonna sound kind of weird. I'm not quite sure how to put this, so I'm just going to come out with it... About three weeks ago I started lactating... Is that normal for PTSD???

Any information or advice would be appreciated.

That's very interesting. I have been having problems with dropping things on a rather consistent basis for several years now. I've chosen not to have carpet in my apartment for that reason. I'd love to enjoy better looking floor covering and my vinyl tile floors are absolutely freezing in the winter. Constant spot cleaning on carpet just doesn't fit my daily agenda. Thanks for this information!
