Why Rules are Rules

I believe that seeing avatars or not seeing avatars when you're logged in is a user-set option:

User CP
Settings & Options
Edit Options
Thread Display Options
Checkbox for "Show Avatars"

It seems to me that the default setting is that avatars are not displayed when you're logged in. I didn't notice that I wasn't seeing them until one day when I was browsing before logging in, and there they were! Then I found the setting listed above and turned them on.

Oh wow! That definitely explains it Mina, thanks :). I was getting confused for a minute thinking, crap Nicolette says there's an avatar on hers but I don't see it! What's wrong with meeee! (kinda thing).

Nicolette,

Shamstalat is legally blind. I think she uses some sort of voice program to be able to "read" the posts on the forum. She just assumed that there were no avatars because the way the whole post talked about it, it wasn't obvious what the issue KarmaisaBitch had about the avatar was.

I can see how it would be very confusing to someone who was hearing the conversation, instead of seeing it.

Wow. That was a first for me. Thanks so much Luthien for being so considerate and understanding. I really appreciate it. You made my day!

(I'll explain why) So many people get upset/angry at Shamstalat over 'visual' things (in the beginning even I did). Like GOD don't you have eyes, why can't you see this, how could you assume that, why are you so blind! And they forget or don't care that that's because she IS blind.

Hello Anthony, I just wanted to say, it seems like you are getting pretty hot under the collar about a lot of stuff on here at the moment. Yes, it seems there are trouble makers here but IMO those people's rubbish doesn't count for much because they're not here for the right reasons. They spend energy complaining and arguing and getting in people's way. They are not here to get better or to help others which is the whole reason for this place.

I appreciate this forum and try to abide by the rules (which is quite tricky for me because I'm not very good with authority!). I dont like them all but I understand why they are there. I respect the way you have set this up and also, at the end of the day that you pay for it too. So, the way I see it is, I'm in your house. If you dont want me to leave my cups around, put my feet on the furniture etc then I wont. It's the old saying...while you're under my roof, you'll do as I say!

Thanks for your clarification Luthien. I interpreted Anthony's post slightly differently and I did not know Shamstalat was blind. I often don't have the time privilege to sit and read everything so I responded to the comment and do not always go and read the entire thread. If I explain something and it doesn't make sense please feel free to ask or PM me.

I'm glad we cleared it up. I hope I don't confuse people because sometimes I miss out on information that my screen reader doesn't read. It reads images as "graphic" or "HTML content." But so far that hasn't been an issue on this forum. I've posted on forums where entire threads were devoted to trading images or where people would post a reply that consisted entirely of an image. Of course I was completely lost on those threads! In short I am really happy about how blind-friendly this forum is. Thanks to all that made it that way.

When in doubt.....Ask.

I read absolute nonsense

If this forum was not a trauma based forum, then things would be far far different than they are. The facts though is that because trauma has such an impact and an array of symptoms, it is better to simply remove some issues or I have been forced to control some matters upon this forum because there are just so many idiots out there who want to wreck and ruin anything good a community may have going for it.

If in doubt... if you want to question something... I ask you to first stop, think, ASK me privately or openly before running off at the mouth and becoming a troll. KarmaisaBitch got moderated once again because he just can't shut his mouth and stop bitching and causing issues here. A troll is someone who really has nothing constructive to add, they just go through and nit pick a community trying to get everyone angry, upset... taken to their level basically. Sorry, but I just cannot allow that sort of thing to occur here long because far too many endup upset and symptomatic as a result.

I agree with Anthony about "when in doubt". Once someone said something in a post that triggered me very bad, and I ran my mouth. After it was explained to me and I calmed down I realized I was out of line and it was uncalled for to make accusations and get other people upset. I felt bad, but learned from that mistake.

It's a learning experience to try and keep from complaining about the rules and jumping to conclusions then posting without thinking it through. It's tough and I still do it on occasion, but 9 times out of 10 I have deleted those type of posts before I submitted them.

I believe Anthony understands that this happens with people who don't have PTSD. But when the same people keep doing the same crap over and over it's not fair to those who are trying to help us and supply us with a place to find support and common ground.

Anthony and Nicolette have always treated everyone fair as far as I can tell, and I know that would be hard to do without having PTSD. So I do ask that we try to just follow the rules. Everything that gets brought up about the rules here has been brought up in the past. Just search the archives and leave well enough alone, please.

Thanks
Tammy
