My New Therapist Terminated Me

It only matters if this is a miscommunication, not a termination.

If all you told her was that the group would not work, period - when actually you will figure out how to make it work but need accommodation support - it's a misunderstanding.

If she knows all the info, then it's a straight up termination and a very shitty one at that.

Is it possible this is miscommunication? And even if it is - maybe you don't want to work with her after this.

(You might not know til Tuesday, but still good to think about)

Just, really - text??? Can't quite get over that.

I'm also really shocked that she put canceling your Tuesday session on the table. On the release I signed, my T had a whole section about her procedure for termination on her end, and she wrote imploringly that the client to come for a termination session should they decide to fire her so that she could help with referrals and both she and the client could have closure on the relationship. My T would never suggest that I cancel our last session.

Agreed 1000%.

In learning all about the code of ethics that applies to an LCSW today, I did discover an interesting thing.
Social workers should take reasonable steps to avoid abandoning clients who are still in need of services. Social workers should withdraw services precipitously only under unusual circumstances, giving careful consideration to all factors in the situation and taking care to minimize possible adverse effects. Social workers should assist in making appropriate arrangements for continuation of services when necessary.

@Nighthawk, what this therapist did seems to me to be no-where near a circumstance warranting precipitous termination, and she certainly did not handle it with careful consideration.

So, if you want to make a formal complaint (I don't think you'd have enough for more than that, but still, it should affect her in some way) you can go here: Link Removed and look for the contact information for your state.
