Allergy Meds Causing Panic?

For some reason it seems to get really trendy for docs to script antihistamines like benadryl for anxiety to help you sleep. I wake up with anxiety frequently and take a benadryl before bed sometimes. Ambien also tends increase anxiety levels which I have been on a long time and can mostly deal with. I think its a load of crock about how much some doctors start prescribing antihistamines to replace a dose of what was or should have been/be an actual...benzodiazepine, basically. And I used to have an epileptic reaction to ZzQuil. And sort of benadryl but it stopped. That and I have actual allergies and I'll have a whole lot more anxiety if I cannot breathe. I can take NyQuil, I just still am not sure about ZzQuil. So, just a friendly reminder about over the counter medications to help you sleep, and any medication, be careful, and don't be afraid to call through an emergency line for medical assistance if you feel you are having an adverse reaction.

This might be an odd question for this thread, but does anyone else find that allergy medications make...
Yes I have noticed it too. I thought it was just me. I really noticed it when I switched to a generic zyrtec. It has no phenylephedrine either but spikes my anxiety for about two hours.

Ambien increases daytime anxiety? Huh. TIL. I stopped taking it because it made me hallucinat...
It still makes me hallucinate right before falling asleep sometimes. I'm the kind of person who can accept that as a side effect of my medication and accept it for what it is. Which I will tell you exactly how I think about it when that starts happening more frequently is that all that hallucination (for me these are auditory) really is is just a thought of my own that my mind says to me out loud. It is that simple.

As a note on sleeping pills. In general with prazosin they say to take it every night because it is usually treating other symptoms. However medications like ambien or resterall used for sleep in hypnotic sedative/benzodiazepine class are sometimes better taken only when you cannot fall asleep that night and if you easily build a tolerance to them aiming for taking them not much more than every third night or so can be a good idea.
