Other Drinking Water Is A Trigger

I'll rather ask this one before I forget again.

Embarrassing af but given how often I default to being stuck at it might as well ask for input.

So the trigger is drinking water.
Most obvious with just plain water.
Usually large quantities.

I'm fair often chronically dehydrated, even when all mindful to be balancing out my over the top necessary coffee intake & grabbing as much veggies & fruits as I can. Even on years I'm curbing down my (booze) drinking.

Quite often dealing with being banged up in some way, my own clumsy or else, so that doesn't help the dehydration much, either.

And drinking water is a f*cked up trigger.

Sodas or flavored water don't even bridge it much. Sooner or later my head throws a fit those are drinking + water = run for the hills  too.

So any tips & tricks & ideas how to deal with this mongrel? Thanks in advance.

I had problems with this....throat sometimes still shuts involuntarily.

For me....I spent a bunch of money and went thru many different kinds of water receptacles....tried different shape of containers....plastic, glass, narrow, wide, short, long, straw, etc etc.
I found a plastic water bottle - that’s actually a kids bottle (Nalgene is the brand) has a cartoon on it. And for some reason, I like it, it’s become a thing to take with me where-ever I go. Even gave it a nickname.

Guess that’s kid me it’s working for and it’s cool!

Maybe it could work?

Anything liquid at room temp counts as a fluid (ice, pudding, yogurt, soup, jelly- a good one :) , popsicles, etc.) You can buy a thickener and turn anything in to near solid. (As long as it's not too much salt- dehydrating). Also you can get quite bit of water in to, eg, cream of wheat, oatmeal; etc. Even regular foods if you add water, stir, let it solidify, eg hambuger, chilli, bananas. Also fluid-rich foods, eg watermelon, lettuce.

@Warrior Chicken :D I'm definitely gonna try that.

Because I got a few drinking friendly cups that make it doable, yet to do the same with a bottle never occurred to me through the decades I had this issue. :banghead:

Bottles to take swimming / running / climbing / skating / traveling were always just Meh, whichever, but getting Special Bottle sounds would work good.

Good demonstration to how many disconnects I do bout the whole thing, for true.

The only kind of water-water I can do is ice-melt. Summertime throw water bottles in the freezer and drink them as they melt, colder times of year, ice chips in a cup with a straw (no idea why/wherefore, but the straw is required), and maybe a dash of water thrown in to speed up the melt. (LOVE the chewing on ice trick, by the by).

Same, but much narrower, it’s a trigger. One that I’ve never valued exposure therapy-ing away, because there are so many not-water things to drink. Maybe someday I’ll need to / have to. But until then I’ll eat raw fruit (not a fan of fruit in general, too sweet :wtf: I usually only eat raw fruit maaaaaaybe twice a year, unless we’re talking tomatoes and cucumber salad) before drinking water. <<< Jicama (not sweet!...also not a fruit. Huh. Whoops. Ah well. It’s as much water as watermelon), Mangos, Tomatoes, Grapes, Pineapple, Pomegranate, Cherries, Cucumber, Citrus.

But 99% of the time I just don’t drink water. Sparkling water + lime juice even gets dicey, and I have to focus very strongly on the burn. Whenever I have sorta kinda maybe tried to drink “more” water? I end up eating a lot of Fatoosh/Israeli salads, soup, etc. And not drinking more water, at all. Just less soda.

Eliminate diuretics/caffiene in the meantime to prevent chronic dehydration? And focus on the fruits and stuff like gazpachos or veg/fruit beverages … no sense voiding more and risking damage to kidneys when you're already dehydrated huh? And yeah, try the thickener, pudding consistency? And try to incorporate regularly hydrating foods? Best Hydrating Foods - Our Top 10 Recommendtions

I can't. Caffeine = ADHD meds.

Decompensated ADHD = bad juju dysreg. Unmanageably bad. Not risking that.

But fruits are go. More drinkables offa fruit & vegs would prolly pass too, as like both very much and ain't even picky what I'm eating, if it's sweet it wins & if it's green it's delish.

Consistency tho is other thing I could play around with, bc any time bad off I wind up on smoothies & babyfoods anyway, so yep, will give it a shot. ;)
