News George Zimmermann Case And Trial

HLN segment on Angela Corey:

And also her July 13th statement:

She needs to be investigated and potentially disbarred. If there are to be subsequent suits on behalf of Zimmerman, I hope, although it may not financially benefit him that he will consider going after Corey. As he is also a Floridian, it is his right as a citizen.

OK, I am going to put it out there....what in the coverage or transcripts indicated "racist" overtones by Zimmerman? Personally, I am not finding them, but I am not going to say that my search is exhaustive.

One thing I did get from the trial coverage was the night the shooting took place it was dark and rainy. In fact it was so dark that many of the witnesses to the physical altercation could not identify the color of the clothing, yet alone the color of the skin.

Is it "racial profiling" when a neighborhood watch distributes information about break-ins and refers to the race of the suspects? Look at the uniform crime statistics and the data collected...should racial data even be collected?

Everyone is so polarized by this shooting, but the truth is so many children are killed on a daily basis from gang related violence and barely a word is printed about their deaths. So it is OK for African Americans to kill another African American and the public says nothing?

I guess that is where I get tired of the media playing the race card and maybe race needs to be taken out of the question and the issue of violence addressed. What is interesting is so many of the members of this forum have been victims of violence and maybe that is the issue that all people, regardless of gender, race or age should call attention to.

So what...let's blame anyone except George Zimmerman, is that it? I have said before that I feel the prosecution didn't do its job properly. And while I am iffy about her calling Zimmerman a murderer, the fact remains that he killed Trayvon Martin. Perhaps "killer" would've been a more appropriate term. Martin didn't kill himself nor was he killed by a third party and he certainly didn't die of natural causes...Zimmerman killed him. How else is someone supposed to state that fact?

Intothelight, I don't think anyone is saying that it's ok for African Americans to kill other African Americans or indeed for anyone to kill anyone. And I'm sure that those African Americans who kill anyone face the swift punishment of the system (as they should). But the bigger question is, what made Zimmerman assume Martin was a criminal? Yeah, ok a string of robberies in the neighbourhood? Was it the way Martin was dressed? What was he supposed to wear on a rainy night? Not only that but in Zimmerman's mind, when he got closer to Martin, it seemed to confirm for him that Martin was the criminal - what did he base his decision on, other than what Trayvon looked like...ie the fact that he was black? But, intothelight, let's say we try to separate things and take race out of this and do as you suggest and address the violence. Where does violence come from? What contributes to it? Which groups are underprivileged, and why? Are the same standards applied to everyone equally, regardless of race etc? I think you will find that they are not.

I think both Zimmerman and the Martin boy were racist (per the use of the words "cracker" and "ni....") hotheads. Both lacked sense in the need to confront each other, rather than allow law enforcement to do its job. I believe Zimmerman is more at fault because of his age and lack of maturity. I do believe the jury was right to find him not guilty, because I do believe that by the time the gun was pulled he was in fear for his life. I have a great deal of pity for the Martin family and empathy to the Martin family. Their son did something many, many other teen-aged boys across the country would have done, African American, Korean American, German American or otherwise. Teen-age boys believe themselves to be invincible, and so they face off when they ought to stand down and allow the law enforcement handle it. I believe, given time, Tryvon Martin probably would have matured into a wonderful man, given that his parents seem like great people. I wish I could bring him back. I believe the media is guilty of race-baiting, as is President Obama who made his judgement before the jury did. I think Zimmerman will have a long (or maybe not so long) and hellish life ahead of him. I do believe the African American community face prejudices that I cannot ever imagine. I work hard to change that in my corner of the world. I hope I make a difference.

At first I thought that Zimmerman was in the wrong. I thought it was not his job to apprehend and confront a suspicious looking person in his neighborhood- only to report it and go on about his business. However, he was under no legal obligation to do so. He made a stupid judgement call that did not violate any law......and the jury found that to be true. Just as Trayvon was free to walk the neighborhood crossing lawns and doing as he pleased.....so was George Zimmerman. Stalking a victim is NOT the same as being a conscientious but ultimately stupid and overzealous neighborhood watchman. For stalking to take place, the victim must be perceived as prey. Prey is generally the weaker of the species. There has to be communication of intent to cause harm or psychological distress. I don't see a 17 year old 6"3' athletic male as being prey to an older, less athletic male. Just the opposite- in fact.

After the verdict was handed down I decided to look more into the characters of both parties. I am still sure that Zimmerman should not have tried to play citizen cop. I am also sure that he had every reason to be afraid during the physical confrontation with Trayvon. I am just as sure that Trayvon should have gone directly home. I think he decided to confront Zimmerman, as many teens are prone to do. Because they think they are invincible- teens tend to NOT avoid confrontation- at least the males. It's some sort of alpha thing that they haven't yet grown out of. Trayvon did not look like the kind of kid to be afraid of your average "elder." At 6"3'.....he KNOWS he towered over Zimmerman and I think it gave him a false sense of bravado that led to him saying "wassup cracker/faggot/whitey/spic/beaner or any other derogatory term other than "can I help you sir?" and his tragic death. Yes. I KNOW. I have a male child and know exactly how stupid, smart-mouthed, and falsely brave they can be. Unlike the POTUS.....my kid WAS Trayvon....only he was/is a white/latino.

I don't think race had anything to do with it. It is NOT white on black as Zimmerman is not strictly Caucasian- he is multiracial- one of his races being Afro-peruvian. I think race has been brought into it to incite race war and divide communities. I know plenty of Caucasian teens who dress in similar fashion as Trayvon. My own son (18 y/ol)is bi-racial (white/latino) and USED to dress the same way. Baggy jeans with underwear showing. Over size tees and hoodies beneath a black peacoat. Red bandanas....marijuana apparel....the whole shebang. Objectively, I looked at my son and his cohorts as a whole. If I had been a stranger- I would not hire any of them. If I had been a stranger- I would have been afraid of any of them. Why? Because they perpetuated the rap/gang culture mentality and came across as arrogant young thugs looking to intimidate and cause trouble. It did and does not matter what race my son or any of his cohorts are.....they got the same amount of dis-ease from while in their presence. They acted like idiots and my son will sheepishly tell you so NOW.

I agree that at one time we all were kids and dressed according to fashion and trend. It didn't make it any more right then than it does now. I think if people want to see change......they need to stop glorifying gang/thug culture as being cool. They need to stop crying "why me?" when they can't get a job....people lock their car doors....or clutch their purses and wallets a little closer when ANY person who dresses like a thug comes into their personal space and vicinity. This goes for white/black/asian/latino. Remember the movie Grand Torino w/ Clint Eastwood? All those kids dressed like gangbangers and they were Hmong. That was a great depiction of teenage stupidity in America today. Also a great depiction of a white racist- who overcame his racism when it became apparent that his prejudices included the good kids too.

A wise young man once told me that "if you want to dress and project a certain image......don't be surprised if people judge you based on what you choose to project." It's not going to matter if you are white, black, asian or latino. If you don't look like an angel.....you are not going to be perceived as an angel. Teens these days.....unless they are the lead vocalist in their church choir or are a nerd........appear to be anything but angels.

Earlier I made a comment and I'd like to go into a little detail about what I said. Yes, Albatross you were being racist. Why? A teenager is dead and the first thing you said is "Teenage Dopehead". I've read your other posts. Its obvious where your ideologies fall. Deny it all you want. But, your words speak volumes.

Blacks this, Al Sharpton that. Then you point out the small amount you said that might not have been construed as racist to get yourself off the hook.

Also, I like this forum. But, I'm not taking back my words. Mod warn me until the cows come home. If I'm going to be warned while someone rants and uses racist language..Maybe, you should think about how you're modding.

As someone who was brought up by a very racist mother and also has some training in Law Enforcement. This was a very stupid incident that just did not need to happen. When given instructions over the phone or in person please obey those instructions. You can race hat all day long (it solves nothing and improves no life), somebody is still dead and someone-else is still living with the bad decision that caused that death!

We need to respect our own cultures and those of others, we also need to respect those who protect us enough to let them do it and if they don't we need to have civilized change.

As a Christian I believe we are all one race created equally struggling through the world's great challenges, as Human Beings we should not be encouraging our own extinction!

Works for me, say what you like. I don't have to deny anything and stand by my own words as well. I don't have to prove myself to anybody.

I have no idea what you mean by how I am "modding".
