How Did You Sleep Last Night?

Another not sleeping person signing in. I too am trying a strict routine to see if it helps any but no luck so far. I'm in bed by 11.00pm and usually fall asleep quite easily only to wake at 1.30am with a racing heart, I'm then awake until around 5.00am and need to be up at 6.30am for work. So 3/4 hours sleep a night which is an improvement on what was happening before my "routine".

I'm fortunate in that I don't get nightmares, which I'm thankful for - very strange dreams if I get that far but nothing scary. I do tend to wake feeling anxious and I long for 8 hours uninterrupted sleep.

I'm so tired this morning. I went to bed early because I was so tired yesterday, but ended up waking a bunch of times. Just before I was supposed to get up with the kids I had a freaky nightmare I couldn't wake myself up from. I think I tried tapping my husband a couple times and saying I'm having a nightmare but I don't know if I managed those things outside of the dream.

It was such a scary feeling not being able to wake myself up. I'm so groggy and confused this morning. It's like the dream just kept sucking me under every time I tried to get out of it.

Even the nights I don't have nightmares, I wake up with a racing heart during the night, and every morning when I wake up my heart is racing....I don't find going to be earlier helps, I still wake up after about two hours....as soon as I guess I would hit that REM sleep. Its so frustrating more than anything else.....

With the nightmares @BananaSockMuffins my counsellor says to have a grounding device (a bit like that in the film inception) so that when you don't know if it is a dream or reality stroke/ play with the grounding device (I used a ring that I always wear which my parents gave me, it needs to be something that is special to you with good memories) and it makes you realise you are awake and that it was a dream, I tried it last week after a horrid nightmare, and it works quite well. I use it when I get out of body experiences/dissociation when awake too

Last night a nightmare woke me up. I found myself thrashing in my bed. My hands were kind of up and moving and I think I was moving my head from side to side. I was aware that in my dream I was thinking and saying "oh no no!". As I woke up I could remember parts of my nightmare. And I felt very scared. I wound up falling back to sleep. When I woke up in the morning I couldn't remember the nightmare. All I could remember is that I was being attacked and trying to avoid being attacked. I was in a similar position to one where I experienced one of my traumas. Now it's 2:30am and I'm tired. I'm also really hesitant to go to sleep.

Didn't take my sleep meds last night because I had wine before bed. That included the prazosin so I was plagued by nightmares, but at least I wasn't laying awake all night.

I'm 20 years old and a fire fighter and ever since the start of the year I've had nonstop nightmares and wake up sweating and terrified, does anyone know any solutions?

There is a medication called Prazosin. I was extremely resistant to taking it at first, but once I got past the being dizzy in the morning, it has been a god send. it really does make a difference.
