My Never-ending Degree

This is going on my 6th year. I can't concentrate unless I'm copying and pasting answers and even then I still don't get it. My attention span is low. I took online classes too and still lagged around but passed not understanding what I just read.
I thought I was the only one who found uni very difficult!! Thanks for your response.

I actually have 3 degrees. I was diagnosed with DID (dissociative identity disorder) while I was obtaining my second one (I was having severe dissociative issues during class at the time), and went on to complete that degree and then a Master's Degree later. I know how very tough it can be, but it is absolutely possible to make it through school successfully - if I can do it, you can! I did my Master's Degree almost completely online, with the exception of 2 week-long residences at the university. :-)

That's no good!! I was given info on simple ways to get present. This might not help but I thought I would share anyway.
Sound is important for me to get back to reality so listening to lectures is best for me rather than reading text books. When I have to read,
focusing on noises can help bring me back into the present. Whether it be focusing to hear other noises like a fan blowing, a clock ticking, the sound of pressing keys on my laptop, anything that draws me back into the room and into my body. It helps zone me in to try retain information that I'm reading. And like you said, writing it all down.
We all have different tactics to try get present though - maybe it might be holding something cold or hot, smelling coffee beans?? I'm not sure.
Keep going - 6 years of study is a huge accomplishment! U have come this far, u can finish :)

That is so amazing and inspiring. Thank you for letting me know. It gives me a lot of hope!! Are you working now? Does your DID affect your work as much as it did with your study?

I do. I work full-time - have for going on 14 years this time around (15 at my last job), save for a couple of brief medical leaves for abdominal and brain surgery. I'm in a managerial position, and I do ok. The DID is not really a problem at work; as a matter of fact, it's the PTSD that creates the issues and, when I can't function, one of my other insiders takes over for me (well, usually) and helps out.

My biggest problem with work is that I am triggered by the stuff that goes on with the other employees and I am not doing what I'm passionate about. I really hate it there and need to make a change. But yes, I manage ok. That's why I know you can get through school and do the same. :-)

Thanks so much :) I hope u can find work that u feel passionately about! It sucks that you hate it there but I'm sure you will find opportunities that suit you better in time. Again, thank u for the msg!!
