Problems We Have Experienced With Physicans

I went to see the new doctor about getting help with the PTSD and it was this doctor who demanded I tell him how I got the PTSD and asked me 'what makes you think you have PTSD?' It was all written on his computer screen and I felt emotionally raped.

(((((((hugs)))))) Crafty Cath, that is horrible. I'm so sorry, how stupid of him.

I have been there, and it almost hurts physically to be disbelieved and forced to "prove" that you have PTSD.

Hugs to all with bad experiences.

My GP is lovely she is genuinely a nice person, however at times i feel my physical needs are overlooked because of my mental issues. Also at times i doubt any of the professionals, i had pretty bad chest pain not long back and it was assumed it was muscualr which think it was but basic checks such as BP were not checked was just assumed, now as someone who has high blood pressure if i was a GP i would be checking such vital signs regardless of if i thought it was muscular. Basic checks and better safe than sorry. Maybe i am just to critical.

It IS horrible when they think they have to see or hear the facts for themselves! Good Lord, who'd make up stuff like that? That's why I don't like changing docs. I try as hard as I can to stick with the same docs, especially in the Psychiatric area. Shouldn't have to repeat the stories unless I choose to.

Remember, doctors 'practice' medicine. They are not always right, and many times they are guessing. Have to always use caution when making BIG changes if a new doc is involved.

I love my GP, she's young, but very good! I go in with my list and we whip right through it. She somehow picked up that my O2 was dropping at night. I was tested, and she was right, so now I use 02 at night. Feel MUCH better.

I'm currently very annoyed at my CPN she just doesn't seem to care, I thought it was her job?
Since she phoned to ask where I was, I've heard nothing. So I guess it's a good job I have my husband.

At the moment my pain is either taking my mind off my PTSD or triggering my PTSD and it's horrible:sick:

The Doctor just seems to fob me off with pills, and I haven't been able to get to see my doctor as I can hardly move.So the health centre sent round the on call doctor (who I call Dr Death) but for real and personnal reasons.
It was as I thought it would be, he was useless and acted like he was scared. He just asked me questions and than gave me pills, these pills made me much worse I was sick and exhausted.

So I will have to get up to the health centre some how and see my Doctor as he's lovely, I've had my GP for years and he is my childrens GP as well. He said 4 weeks ago he would refer me to a physiotherapist at the hospital but so far nothing.

But my husband filled a carers form in and a lady from adult social services came and she took notes and she offered us both advice and help. I admit I thought there goes another one but 24 hours later we got a call as someone is coming out to review my mobilty etc.

If that got sorted that would be a huge help but I still need help with my PTSD as at the moment it's all over the place. I never know where I am from one minute to the next. Thinking I might have to ring my CPN and remind her what her job is!

I had this gp who just stared at me with huge eyes when I told her that I suffered from insomnia so badly that it made me depressed. I had to literally beg her to hand me over to a sleep specialist after my blood work came back squeaky clean and a demonstration of the fact that I did not just have to run some laps in the morning to wake myself up (I felt like dying after each run).

Then the sleep specialist told me my insomnia would go away if I'd just stop partying all weekend and start to get up at six every morning. I told him I didn't party. He told me to get up at six for three weeks, then report back. I returned to tell him that I simply couldn't get up at six and still go to uni without collapsing on the way back home, seriously. He told me I didn't really try and that I was too young to have 'real' insomnia. And then he sent me away.

I have only myself to thank for surviving that year. *hugs herself* Thankies, freakofnurture. *hugs herself back* You're welcome.

(((freakofnurture))) Hey, you got us! You made it through another year...not everyone can say that. YAY, and you have no plans on giving up. That's big!

Some doctors think they are God, and the only cure? :rolleyes:A different doctor. Once they make their minds up, there is nothing you can do. I don't think they are taught enough about depression in med school. I hope you can find a better one.

Best of luck and blessings to you!

Some of these people go into the medical profession so they can abuse people/kids!

Oh' ya, I believe that's quite possible. My pediatric visits as a kid of 7 and/or 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 all consisted of being vaginally and anally examined via doctors finger. First my sister or I and then the other in turn. My mother was always in the room and I remember how she generally sat in the far left hand corner of the room spaced-out and did absolutely nothing to make him stop.

My hardest memory of Mom's prescence was her standing at the far end of this pediatric exam table and watching as he did what he did. Neither my sister or I ever wanted these exams and we'd object but according to Mom they were routine exams and necessary. I have a daughter who is pre-teen and she's never once had such a routine exam, as its not necessary. And, especially received yr. after yr. after yr., in turn, one right after the other. Btw my sister is rather ill with all this grand stuff and with the symptoms many here all suffer with.

My favorite place in that pediatrics office is the very corner of a shelf that existed above my head as I followed his 'bend you knees', 'and drop one up against the wall' yearly routine.

Yikes, get me out of there. And, get my sister out too.

So from my point of view, I imagine that yes, some people do go into the medical profession simply so that they can deviate control, and for opportunities for abuses, and/or simply later to unload their baggage upon some patient that comes by and for no other reason, other then to rely upon their professional services.

That's one thing that I'm yet to comprehend, but it's why does a victim of any such abuses, or even negligence or unreasoning misdiagnosis, then turn around and get charged money.

After all the surgeries and complications from surgeries I have major issues with just walking into a doctor’s office. I had major surgery at six when I was shot. I had my first knee surgery at 16 and had a horrible time coming out of the anesthesia. I had another Knee surgery’s at 17and 26. In my mid 30’s I went in for a procedure and came out with a hematoma that bled out for 14 days and caused massive trauma. This all leads to last year.

In April I was having issues with my ear and was scared to go to the doctor. I went to a conference and thought it would be ok because my ear did not hurt on the plane. By the time I got back I had lost some of my hearing. Upon my return I made an appointment with an internist. I went into see him and he said I had wax on my ear drum and I should go see an ENT.

I made another appointment not being in my DR element and went to see an ENT that told me I had a very bad ear infection and prescribed antibiotics for two weeks. During the two week process I lost the rest of my hearing in my ear and my ear started bleeding. So once again I was back off to the ENT. The fact that my ear was bleeding was not seen as good and the DR proceeded to tell me that she was going to a biopsy and if it came back positive ear cancer is fatal. Talk about freaking out. Her bedside manner was awful. I got so upset I made an appointment with a different ENT for a second opinion.

Once again I was told that I had a very bad ear infection and seeing as the previous ENT had put some kind of dye drop in my ear he could not see the lesion. He gave me a different prescription and sent me on my way deaf and all. He also notified me he was going out of town and to come back and see his partner in a week, when the biopsy report should have been in.

This lead me to Dr. number 4 and a response of bad ear infection and that he was not able to read me my biopsy report and that I needed to come back to see the other Dr. upon his return. I believe at this point I had been dealing with this for over 9 weeks and seeing as my ear was not improving negative images and PTSD had started to rear its ugly head. I went back to see him and he looked at my biopsy and literally said my hands are off you need to go to see a specialist at the cancer hospital.

To get an appointment in this department is not easy but seeing as this is such a rare form of cancer they managed to get me in to see the Dr. 9 days later all the time I am dying inside. Dr. Number 5…. Went into the cancer hospital to the head and neck floor not willing to share the sights I saw. I waited for 3 hours to see the Dr. for him to tell me that he believed there was no cancer and that he needed to get my biopsy from the other Dr. Office to confirm. He said it looked like I had a weird rare form of a fungal infection in my ear and if the pathologist does not do the test with certain dyes that it would come up cancerous every time. He gave me a prescription and once again with some hope of good news I was waiting.

I was released from the hold over me 3 months later it was official I did not have cancer. My hearing was coming back and my tingling in my face was calming down. It is now over a year later. I have to see the cancer Dr. every four months and this sole issue pushed my PTSD to new heights. Dr.’s are not my cup of tea. I hate that they can be so unbelievably wrong and cruel in the process.

I am so sorry that you and your sister had to suffer this goingonhope. As a x nurse that worked on pediatrics I know for a fact that these examinations are not routine. A child will only be examined if there is a problem in that specific area and they usually give a GA so the child isn't traumatised.

My mother was always in the room and I remember how she generally sat in the far left hand corner of the room spaced-out and did absolutely nothing to make him stop.

I think this is a big problem in medicine GOH. Even if a patient/parent suspects something is wrong they seldom challenge the professional usually out of fear, misplaced trust or because they are generally ignorant and think the doctor is always right.

My Mum used to tell me off for questioning doctors telling me that they knew best. It is sad when people feel they cannot question someone in authority, weather it is a doctor, nurse, religious leader, or the police. We have the right to question. My problem is that when any one becomes controlling it sets of my 'little part' and I then cannot confront them at all. I just cower in fear.

If my mother had stood her ground she may well have survived, but maybe not - who knows.

P.S. I found out today that my sister had a bad time at the same NHS dentists that I did as did my Brother-in-law and my Nephew.

They really messed you around NH. I can't say that I'm surprised. It seems that there are no gentlemen (or ladies) left in the medical profession, and certainly no 'bed side manner.' You did well to share all that. You're not a person anymore just a 'condition' or a 'symptom' to these people. My last GP was amazing but he left just as I went into crises mode. If you find a good one for heavens sake keep them under lock and key!
