I asked mine for a kiss goodbye this morning. (He had given me a half-hearted hug.) His response was "Give me a f*cking break!" and a very angry stare. FFS. Remind me why I bother?

I'm curious. Why do you bother?

I bother because I believe that he is a fundamentally good human being who is damaged by his putting himself in the line of fire for others. And he deserves loving care for his mental and spiritual injuries just as much as for his physical injuries.

Also because my father is a combat veteran and I clearly have codependency, trauma bonding and daddy issues. ;)
